How to Find a Safe and Reliable Nanny

Looking for a nanny? Then you are no doubt in search of one that is safe, reliable and completely trustworthy. There are many ways to go about getting a nanny that is not only safe, but one that is great for your children, too.

The first step is to guarantee the work that they can do. The Internet is full of ads for nannies and caregivers. You need to be extremely careful about finding a nanny through ads that are posted in classified sections and the like. Many child-abusers, molesters and pedophiles have posed as nannies, just to get access into a person's home and into their kids' lives. While they are few and far between the real ads, it is important to understand that they are out there. Take your time to actually research the website that you are using, to make sure that it is legitimate. If you are using a local newspaper, then you may want to place an ad of your own, and wait for people to respond to you. Some molesters have been known to place their own ads to draw attention to themselves.

No matter how you find the nanny of your choice, you will want to have them fill out an application of your own. Even if they already did so online, you will want your own so that you can do a thorough background check on them. Make sure that when you do plan to run background checks, that your applicant signs a permission form that allows you to do so. Be prepared to spend a bit of money to do so, as background checks are not free. If you have an applicant that does not want you to perform one, then you should immediately move on.

Of course, once you find someone you like, do not be afraid to ask as many questions as you think are necessary. Double and triple check their references. You may even ask them if you have permission to obtain a police report, to make sure that they come out clean. It is perfectly OK to grill your potential applicants, as this will be who is watching your most precious possessions- your children. In the first couple of weeks, you may want to install cameras throughout your home so that you can go through the recordings later to make sure everything is on the up and up. Remember to inform your nanny that you are doing so, even going so far as to have them sign papers, so that no legal issues arise.

Finding a nanny that is safe and reliable can be hard work. Take your time and research all your options so that you find the best one for the job!
