Loan Modification Without Being Taken

When you are facing the foreclosure of your home, you feel desperate. You would do anything to avoid putting your family through the trauma and interruption of being suddenly uprooted from their familiar life. It is surely a frightening time, but do not act too quickly and add more problems to your already overloaded agenda.

There are unscrupulous companies who claim that they can do magic when it comes to getting a loan modification approved. Don't believe them. Many desperate homeowners have been victimized by these con artists who prey on people who are in very difficult circumstances. Many of these people still end up losing their home because of these people who have bilked them of any remaining financial means that they had.

You can get help with your loan application without spending thousands of dollars with one of these fraudulent companies. President Obama has issued warnings through the Treasury Department that sound an alarm concerning this problem. Homeowners are advised not to pay for any service in advance that guarantees them a reworked mortgage with the Home Affordable Plan. This stimulus plan program is free of charge.

The government website is available to help you get started without any help. However, if you feel you have some questions or need assistance, you can get that through the Housing and Urban Development Office, HUD, or other free services from non-profit agencies. HUD offers free counseling that will help you address your mortgage situation and reformulate your plans.

It is a little overwhelming to some homeowners to begin the home loan modification process, and they are tempted to just completely rely on someone who claims to have the answers and the inside access. But, many people have been duped. The FBI is investigating one such scam in California that made $12 million dollars off of what amounted to just a few successful applications for assistance.

Avoid this pitfall by doing your homework. Find out everything you can about this program, and be proactive. It is your home, and you need to be responsible for finding a solution. There is legitimate help out there. Many homeowners are in your same situation, and the government is aware there is a problem with fraud involving the agencies trying to profit from the program. But, this is an ongoing investigation and mission, and they have not been able to shut them down by anyone's estimation. So, be careful.

You are quite able to accomplish this yourself in conjunction with your bank. This current loan modification program is very advantageous to those who qualify. You can get an interest rate that is much lower and terms that are much longer. This will result in a lower house payment each month. But, just don't fall victim to someone who is trying to further add to your financial problems.

If you can read the papers in the language of the country you would like to work in, it is a huge advantage. This will go into potential job-lead information in more depth and it contains job advertisements. The worth for British job seekers depends somewhat on the country in which the papers are published. For instance, in the Far East, employers would most exclusively be seeking for locals when advertising in a paper. But in the EU, a feedback from a suitably qualified EU national might well produce good result. Quite a number of European countries are involved in projects in resource-rich countries particularly in the Middle East where English is the dominant language. In those situations, some think in terms of recruiting UK nationals on location.

Tafar's Story - "The Boy Who Would Be King"

Tafar was born to an Africanized Canadian mother, Carol, who seemed to don the Rastafarian culture and prefer men of Afrique design. Carol initially had two children Tafar and Kwame. When Tafar was 2 years old his 6 month old brother died and it was judged that his mother, Carol was at fault for neglecting him.

A few weeks after I had started working at the treatment center, Tafar invited me to sit with him in the time out room. He asked me if I was married? If I had children? Where I was born? Did I have siblings?

With my responses he felt at ease. He told me of Albert the social worker who came to take him away from his mother. He told me of his memory of pausing at the elevator looking back at his grief stricken mother standing crying in the apartment doorway. He told me of the horrendous sexual abuse he suffered within 6 months of being placed in a state run child happinesslifetime.com care agencies foster home. Of the many other instances of abuse that followed at the hands of others who should have been caring for him.

He told me when the voices started. The first voice was James and then later the others started. As he told his story, he would look as if from behind himself toward me to assess the impact of his words. I like to believe that he saw my care for him and my admiration of him for surviving with such a good nature. Tafar bonded with me in that padded room in a way that was more intense than any other experience I had ever had in the last 25 years of working with children.

He tested me and to my fortune, he felt me worthy of his trust. During the weeks, months and years that followed, I was a part of the compliment of skilled youth workers who cared for him and I learned so much about this awesome young man's view of the world that I believe he has left his imprint on me that will last forever.

I met Carol and her 3 children born since Kwame's death. Ojuku (who was then 12). Asai, a beautiful little girl who was 11 and the youngest Sipo, a boy who was her only child who was not bi-racial. Tafar was 15.

Carol spoke with an almost authentic Jamaican accent and she and all her children but for Tafar wore Rastafarian styled locks. She told stories that she was Jamaican born but a social worker confided in us that she was Canadian born and second generation raised in the state's child care agency. When Kwame died, she was charged and sent to prison for 3 months. Shortly after her release Carol gave birth to Ojuku and the other children followed.

Carol and her children lived in community housing. They were poor. Living below subsistence level. When they would come to visit Tafar they hoarded food from the group home. They resented Tafar as they felt that he was doing so much better than they could. I felt for Carol and her children each was so special and even though I found Carol manipulating and sometimes unscrupulous, I felt as if somehow she was a victim of circumstances herself.

Kwame died in part because the system who raised Carol had not been able to prepare her for effective parenting. Her own sense of self was so thwarted that she could not find a place for herself within the mainstream Canadian community so she created a fictitious history and sought a place in a culture which both highlighted her differences and contributed to her and her family's isolation.

While Tafar performed remarkably within the treatment setting, the child care system was at a loss as to what they could do for him when he turned 18. He was demitted from the treatment setting and placed in a community setting where there were far less supports and supervision. Tafar lost his temper one evening and when a staff member at the group home stood between him and the door he ran right through her injuring her and was charged and sent to a prison psychiatric unit where I believe he resides until today.

His Brother Ojuku became a hit man for a street level gang and he was sentenced to life in prison for assassinating an opponent at a gas station. I often wonder as to the fate of Asai and Sipo. They were all such beautiful children. Sipo was such a little gentleman. I shudder to think how they could have evolved since the last time I saw them.

On many levels Tafar's story is a sad one but we need to see through the sadness to appreciate the real responsibility - Parenting. Through the gift of inspired and supported parenting, so many lives could have been evolved and enhanced to serve a community with integrity. This story is truthful in respects except for the names of the persons. Truly this story speaks to our understandings of the need for families to find the appropriate supports when they need them and the assurances to pursue enlightened parenting.

We remain so very grateful for this forum's offer of an opportunity to share these sentiments with those who may find interest in these truths.

20 Summertime Fun Tips For Child Care Providers

If you are a child care provider, here are some tips to get ready for summertime play:

Ask parents to bring cool clothing to keep on hand
Keep the children out of the sun during the hottest time of the day. Good times to play outside in summer are from 9-11 a.m. and 3-6 p.m.
Check all outside toys and play structures for loose or missing parts. Do regular cleanings of toys & play structures with eco-friendly cleaner, a scrubby sponge, & a spray hose.
Walk your fence line and check for loose or missing boards or nails
Check trees with low large limbs for splits which could fall if pulled on
Fill water bottles 3/4 full the night before and freeze. Have the children make a name label put to on their bottles. Place the bottles in a box or on a tray outside and encourage the kids to drink 2-4 bottles of water each day.
If having trouble getting the kids to drink water, add some lemon or orange slices or make kool-aid or juice ice cubes to add to drinking water
Serve fruit smoothies, milkshakes or POPSICLES!
Coat everyone well with Sunscreen (Have a signed authorization form prior to application)
Fire up the sprinkler (if allowed by your licensing agency)
Keep a small first aid kit outdoors
Encourage bathroom use before going outdoors to prevent children being unsupervised.
Create a separate list of outdoor rules i.e. No one leaves the yard, no climbing on the fence, no throwing except for balls, shoes off before reentering the house, etc. Go over the rules the first few days of outdoor play.
Do not apply bug repellent to the children unless authorized in writing and requested by parents.
If you have your home sprayed for pests, check to make sure that it is safe for children and pets and confirm what precautions you need to take when the children go outdoors after being sprayed.
Do not fertilize your plants or lawn during the week, do this on the weekend to allow time for the fertilizer to dissolve.
Encourage indoors toys to stay in and outdoor toys to stay out.
Offer fun yet messy activities such as sidewalk chalk, finger-painting and play dough.
Provide safe outdoor activities such as a child friendly play structure, sand box; ride on toys and balls. Set up sporting stations with a mini basketball hoop or cones for mini soccer games.
Keep a cellular or cordless phone outdoors so you can be available to parents as needed, while being able to supervise outdoor play at all times.

Navigating The Maze Of Caring For Your Aging Parents

Throughout our lives nearly all of us have been raised and cared for by our parents. We grow up and strive to be the best citizens and strive for a successful life of our own. Somewhere along the way our parents age and slow down in their abilities to fully care for themselves. It's at that point that roles are reversed and children may need to actually "parent" their parents. This task can be very overwhelming especially if one child is saddled with all or most of the care giving duties. At this point, the child or children need to seek out the many resources that are available.

The care giving children need to pool their resources and try to manage duties. The children living in the area need to fairly split the care giving duties so that no is overwhelmed and the parent or parents are properly taken care of. Children outside the area should focus on critical research topics pertaining to legal, financial and key attributes related to institutional care. This way an additional perspective is available.

Care duties should not be limited to children especially in the case of an only child. A person in that situation should seek out other relatives and even friends if nothing else for advice. Believe it or not relatives like to be consulted and a closer bond may be formed.

Each town has many community resources. Meals on Wheels can help when there are no other resources for a senior to get a hot meal on a cold or rainy day. Transportation benefits are available to those who have difficulty walking. Consulting the local Office of the Aging is a great place to start.

Research is a critical part of the care giving process. This can take on many forms from home health care aides to assisted living facilities to legal and financial issues. It's always best to try to allow the aging parent to live at home. Therefore its best to get references on a well established happinesslifetime.com Home Health Care Agency. The parent will certainly feel more comfortable in their own home. However, in the case of limited resources and a more pronounced case or Alzheimer's disease, the best facility may be an assisted living home with a dementia unit. The care managers and social workers can take a large burden off the primary care givers. Plus, the parents can get some physical, mental, emotional and social stimulation. When the situation gets even more extreme, then the Nursing Home is the next step.

At this point, the children should be certain that the parent's financial and legal house is in order. Again look for recommendations and establish power of attorneys and health care proxies so there is complete control of the funds for critical issues. There are many investment strategies that will protect the parent's income especially in this volatile stock market. From a legal point of view, it may be prudent to apply for Medicaid as this may save money for the "well" parent or even you or your siblings when your parents are no longer here.

This is not an easy time for any family member. It is important to take care of yourself. Reward yourself and your siblings frequently. If necessary seek out support groups. There are many for Cancer and Alzheimer's patients. Social Workers and Counselors are great resources as well. Just knowing that there is someone out there who can relate is a big relief.

Caring for Your Aging Parents is a big responsibility that can bring on a great deal of stress. Nonetheless, there are many sufficient resources out in your community and beyond that can greatly help. Just keep the faith and be aware that there is help no matter what your situation may be.

Senior Health: 11 Resolutions For A Healthier 2011

Since we are approaching 2011, what better way to start the New Year than by making 11 resolutions that are age-appropriate for seniors and beneficial for you? Consider these suggestions, set goals and stay the course. You will be a healthier, happier senior by the end of the year.

1. Eat regular nutritious meals. Many seniors who live alone fail to eat properly. Plan to eat at least one nourishing meal a day - and supplement that with nutritional drinks like Boost or Ensure. Remember, tea and toast does not constitute a meal. Make sure you are getting adequate amounts of fruits, vegetables and whole grains and enough protein in your diet from dairy products and meats.

2. Socialize with others. Invite a neighbor or friend to eat with you or to watch a special TV show together. Ask a family member to take you to a movie or to church. Attend a ballgame, visit a senior center or adult day care and participate in the activities. The increased social stimulation is good for your mental and emotional health.

3. Ask for help. If you live alone and do not have a caregiver or family member that you see regularly, ask someone you know to help you with your shopping, housecleaning and laundry. Ask a neighbor to take you to your appointments or assist you with your errands. Contact an agency that provides companion or home care and secure their services for a few hours each week.

4. Clean house. Many older people become pack rats as they age. Save your family the hassle and heartache of cleaning your residence by identifying items you no longer want, need or will never use again. Give them away to family, friends or a charity now rather than later, and see the joy that comes from sharing your treasures.

5. Get your affairs in order. Put important documents and information such as insurance cards, social security number, mortgage/deed/lease, investments, savings accounts, auto registration, last will, and Medicare/Medicaid forms together in a safe place. Make a list of your personal belongings and let someone know where to find it. If you put your documents in a lock box, make sure you give a family member or a trusted friend a duplicate key.

6. Exercise regularly. No matter your age, exercise helps you feel better, maintain muscle tone, and improve balance. Now is the time to start a daily exercise routine. Walk with a friend, attend an exercise class or do some gardening. Purchase a treadmill or buy an exercise video that you can use at home. New electronic game systems such as Wii Fit provide virtual sports that you can play alone or with a friend indoors. No excuses just do it!

7. Surf the Internet. Even if you do not have a computer, you should learn how to use the Internet. In addition to staying in touch with your family and friends through email, you can access a whole new world of information simply by searching topics of interests.

8. Press for help. While 911 is always available, many older adults feel more secure wearing a personal emergency response system just in case they can't reach the phone. These devices, which can be worn around the neck or on the wrist, can immediately summon emergency assistance if you need it. Contact your local hospital or home health agency to find out how to acquire one of these systems.

9. Better safe than sorry. If you are determined to stay in your home for as long as possible, you need to make certain changes to your environment to ensure your safety. Remove items from the floor that could cause falls, arrange furniture for the easiest exit path, add banisters and guard rails to all steps, showers and bathtubs, purchase a security system, check your fire alarms and make sure all interior and exterior areas are well lit.

10. Engage your mind. Keeping your brain healthy can be a challenge for many seniors. Consider a new hobby, renew your interest in playing cards, board games or crossword puzzles, join a book club or listen to books on tape. Any type of regular mental stimulation will help you stay sharp and reduce memory loss.

11. Make a scrapbook or record a family history. Make a scrapbook that tells your life story; where were you born, who was in your family, your experiences as a child, when and whom you married, your career, promotions or accomplishments over the years. Include pictures and other mementos. Consider writing a journal, creating a family tree and sharing life lessons that are important to you. Many seniors are also producing videos about their life for future generations to watch and enjoy.

Remember, you're never too young or too old to make New Year's resolutions. The trick is actually sticking to the plan throughout the coming year. These suggestions are designed to keep your mind and body fit and to help you organize your personal life. Good luck!

The Increasing Importance of Staffing Agencies

If you're running a business and dealing with a rapidly growing list of interested job seekers, or if you're a prospect looking for a job, you cannot underestimate the importance of dealing with staffing agencies. Both employers and employees can benefit from the services an agency can provide, and in this time of higher unemployment and fewer job openings you need every edge you can get. In the past three years, the United States has gone from having a national unemployment rate of roughly seven percent to one that is now hovering near ten percent. The "experts" say that will eventually come down, but you need to deal with the realities of today, not the hopeful projections for tomorrow. There's very little hard evidence yet that the economy is going to continue to improve.

The job market in the United States and other developed nations has evolved in recent years as the world has shrunk. Outsourcing manufacturing and production work isn't a strictly American practice. European nations are doing it, and so are many of the stronger economic powers in the Middle East. Great Britain has gone from a major manufacturing hub to a nation of white collar management jobs and low income, unskilled labor positions. Meanwhile, here at home, job prospects for recent college graduates are few and far between. That's why the services of a staffing agency are becoming increasingly important. If you don't have someone doing the footwork for you, your chances of landing a good-paying job in any country are almost non-existent.

Why Should My Company Hire You?

If you think about it, that hour-long first interview boils down to one simple question. Why exactly should any prospective employer hire you? For that matter, why would anyone even grant you an interview? There are hundreds of candidates for that position you're applying for. Why should you be any different from any of the others? Your job as the person looking to secure a position is to make yourself look as interesting as possible from the moment you apply. This isn't like days gone by when every applicant would be interviewed. There's a screening process now. Do you know how to get through it? A staffing agency does.

Evaluating Your Needs as an Employer

Let's look at the other side of the employment coin. Imagine you're the one with the job to give. If you're running a company that is able to offer new jobs for the first time in a while, you might want to evaluate your needs before you start posting to classified sites and running help wanted ads in the newspapers. It's not like you have to hire the first available "warm body with a pulse" like you did in the 90's. There are hundreds of unemployed warm bodies who are qualified for the job you're offering and dozens more who are overqualified but will take it just to get back to work. How do you bring that number down to a manageable pool? A staffing agency can help you.

Understanding the Job Market and Choosing Your Profession

There are jobs that have been consistently secure for years which are slowly disappearing today. Remember those commercials for the Maytag repairman who had to take side work because there was nothing to do? His job didn't disappear because the appliances were so reliable they didn't need fixing. Maytag got absorbed by Whirlpool and Whirlpool outsourced all their manufacturing to Southeast Asia. It's now much cheaper to buy a new washer or dryer than pay a repairman to fix the old one. If your training and job experience is in the appliance field, you need to find another line of work. Understand what's available before searching for a job that's not there.

Staffing agencies generally have training programs, and they definitely have a better grasp of what professions are in demand and which to stay away from. "Automotive jobs are considered a dead end right now, but health care is booming." That's a general statement you'll hear from those who don't have a clue what's really going on. The UAW factory jobs of yesteryear may never come back, but there are openings for those trained in alternative energy. Learn to build electric cars and you'll be able to land a good job. On the other hand, health care might be booming, but will there be funding to pay everyone's salary? You might want to think twice about entering that field right now, unless you want to be a primary care doctor. We need plenty of those.

Do you really have to be unemployed?

Apply to any staffing agency in the country and you'll find that they have dozens of jobs available. You can walk away and claim you're not qualified for any of them or you can seek out some training and go into a different line of work. The old job you had, no matter how long you had it, may not be coming back. In some cases, entire industries are disappearing. If you're a chemist who's worked in plastics for ten years, it's time to go back to school for something else. If you're a factory worker who's been laid off for two years, it's time to re-train and go into shipping and receiving or clerical work. Even if it pays less, at least you'll be back to work. Those extensions won't last forever, you know.

As the world changes and old opportunities disappear, new ones are popping up every day. A good staffing agency can put you on the right track to a new career. If you're not sure what field you want to work in, do some temping. More companies are leaning in that direction anyway as the battle over mandatory health care rages on. Temps don't get benefits, but they do bring home a paycheck. A surprisingly high percentage of the folks who are out of work now are unemployed by choice. There are jobs available, but they choose to be selective and wait for something else to come along. If you're one of those folks, you might have noticed that "something else" isn't coming. Work with what's out there. You might actually find a new job you love as much as the old one.

Back to Traditional Agencies in the Childcare Industry

What do we mean when we say au pair? The universally accepted understanding of the term is a home help assistant, usually of foreign nationality. Thousands of young people eager to learn a new language and culture choose to become au pairs or nannies, living with a host family and helping with the childcare and light housework in return for a weekly 'pocket money' (although some sites are offering au pairs as affordable helpers for the elderly, but that is a subject for a separate article). The term itself is French, meaning 'on par' or 'equal to' - referring to the relationship between the host family and the au pair; the au pair is not a servant but an equal who should be treated as a member of the family.

Traditionally the process of matching au pairs and host families required the services of 2 different agencies, one located in the home country of the au pair and the other in the country that the prospective job was situated. So the au pair would deal with one agency and the host family another. The advantage to this was both parties could be sure that everything was legitimate and could rely on the agencies to conduct interviews and vouch for the integrity and character of the au pair or host family, therefore resulting in a much safer and more successful experience.

When the internet came about things changed for the au pair service industry; agencies could now deal with au pairs and families through their company website, local agencies were no longer necessary. So for example prospective au pairs could apply directly on the website of an agency in their target country ( the country in which they want to find a host family ), this saved them any fees they would normally have paid a local agency. Of course the drawback was that the agency in the target country could not interview the au pair on a one-to-one basis.

The next progression was internet servers that could store databases and programming languages like ASP, ColdFusion & PHP that could interact with those databases. This enabled these internet sites to become fully automated, matching au pairs and host families as soon as they register.

This in turn reduced the need for employees within the agency manually matching applicants and hence enabled these sites to offer their services at much reduced rates; normally a membership fee which is less than the traditional agency fee.

These automated sites were for obvious reasons very popular until a couple of years ago for the following reasons.

There were many downfalls of the automated service however; the agency, family and au pair became separate entities, most of the time never communicating directly until the day the au pair arrives at the host family's home; which in reality may turn out to be very different than the description offered by the family. Families did not get a personal service and were now required to put a lot more time and effort into emailing and calling prospective au pairs, a lot of whom were not that serious about becoming au pairs - au pairs may feel that there is no real commitment to the automated registration process as there wasn't an agency calling them to check up.

There was also the problem of 'scam' au pairs and families; automated sites do no filter registrations or check whether they are authentic applicants. There have been many cases where phony au pairs contact families saying they wish to become their au pair but cannot afford the flight ticket or the visa costs, the family would then send money to the au pair to help her but then never hear from her again.

It is estimated that 45% of all applicants on automated au pair and nanny matching sites are Nigerian 419 Fraudsters. For example au pairs have been conned into sending money to families that do not exist. The scamsters will register on automated sites posing as wealthy families living in big homes, offering very generous wages, thus encouraging au pairs to get in contact with them. After picking a girl they would then send her an offering of goodwill; a ridiculous sum of money that would seduce the girl into believing anything they said from now on. Before the money can clear in the bank account - which it never will - they would convince her they need some of it back, because so many girls trust the families wholeheartedly they would do this without question. Check on the aupair-agency.com au pairs site.

As a result of this growing situation most au pairs, nannies and host families have now turned back to the traditionally agencies, feeling that a more personal service is required to ensure that they find the au pair or family that is a good match. With the more traditional agencies au pairs and families can call or email if they need advice or assistance, they can speak to someone who has experience in the industry and trust that any worries they may have will be rectified. Traditional agencies also eliminate the likelihood of fraudsters getting through the registration process as each registration form is checked carefully.

Oh, That Dreaded Discussion

When we age, we can say the time will come when we will need to stop driving. This may be due to a medical condition, declining cognitive skills, slower reflexes, or poor hearing.   Epilepsy is an obvious reason to stop as a seizure could occur when least expected. Neuropathy could hinder your ability to pivot your driving foot quickly enough. Poor eyesight could cause inability to judge distances. Cognitive deficiencies could cause an inability to predict upcoming traffic situations, or cause you to lose your way.  And if you can't hear someone yelling "Stop!" or a car honking at you - who knows what will happen?

I dread the moment of truth when I have to stop driving. I, more so, dread the moment I have to tell one of my loved ones that they should stop driving. My dad is probably reading this and I want him to know that I am very thankful that he made the decision on his own to stop driving. It eliminated the need for that dreaded discussion."  Non-medical home happinesslifetime.com care agencies often deal with many clients who have loved ones that are struggling with how to tell them they need to stop driving. I have seen family members hide keys from their loved ones, replace good keys with ones that don't work, or have a mechanic "un-fix" the car so it won't start anymore. It is sad that people have to go to this measure to ensure their loved one's safety. I feel very lucky and blessed that my dad allowed my family to take the easy route.

Non-medical home happinesslifetime.com care agencies can and do provide transportation for clients that cannot or choose not to drive anymore.  So it's not that the service is not available, the problem is that most people have a hard time admitting they should not drive anymore. Giving up the freedom that comes with the ability to drive is hard to accept.

Home happinesslifetime.com care agencies often work with families in helping them come to a decision about driving.  One of the first things to overcome is to understand that driving is not a right, it is a privilege. And the privilege should be taken away if the driver has a high probability of harming themselves, passengers, pedestrians, or others. But driving is a sign of our independence that most of us have had since our teenage years - and it enables us to go anywhere and do anything on demand. It becomes very routine for us and we simply take it for granted. Taking away this privilege is an incredibly difficult decision.

This winter, when all the snow and ice converges on the city, if you are one of the people that have loved ones telling you that it's time to stop driving, now is a great time to really sit back and think about what is best for you and your community.  Here are 10 things to consider:

1)     Know that your loved ones who are begging you to stop driving, love you and care about you and want you to be both independent and safe. A car accident will undoubtedly cause you to become dependent on someone driving you, but may also cause you to become dependent on someone bathing, feeding, and dressing you. Which is the worse of two evils?

2)     A car accident may also harm someone else and you may end up in a legal battle. Now do you really need all that hassle in your life?

3)     Have your loved one ride in a car with you to judge your skills from their perspective. If they are afraid to ride in a car that you are driving, you have your answer already. If your family members are not close by, ask a trusted advisor like a doctor, lawyer, insurance agent, etc. to evaluate your abilities.

4)     Stop wasting your energy on negative based arguments. Rather, be positive and spend quality time together researching alternatives to driving that will work for you.

5)     Many cities do not have the variety of transportation options that the larger ones do. You may have senior van service, bus routes, and non-medical home happinesslifetime.com care agencies.  Transportation for seniors is a great unmet area that needs to be addressed. With the population statistics as they are, we have no choice. Use your positive influence and energy in working with your community to help address this issue.

6)     Our society is changing and the list of companies now offering delivery of products or services is growing. Research pharmacies, grocery stores, meal preparation services, doctors, dentists, hairdressers, etc. in your area that can bring the goods or services to you.

7)     Know that when you make this decision there will be a "grieving" time for what you feel is a loss of independence. Stay positive by working on a plan to overcome this perceived loss. Think of all the places you will want to go and make a plan on how you will get there. Start your list with the routine places (doctor, groceries, running errands, etc) and then add the fun places you would like to go to (movies, card club, out to dinner, shopping, etc.) The earlier you plan, the more options you will have.

8)     Let your friends know that you are about to make this decision. You will be surprised how many new options come out of the woodwork!

9)     It's really too cold to go out driving now anyway - dealing with scraping your windshield, worrying about the icy road conditions, etc. Let someone else worry about that for you!

10) If your loved one hasn't brought up this topic before, now is a good time to ask them what they think!  It's better to plan ahead than to deal with this when emotions are heightened.

Research Multifocal LASIK Surgery and Vision Clinics Abroad From Home

When planning a surgery such as multifocal LASIK. Many people quickly learn that it is far more cost effective to seek treatment in another country. Researching a variety of hospitals in the country where you plan to travel is a smart way to ensure that you receive the highest quality care. Many useful tools are available online which can be used to research multifocal LASIK surgery hospitals abroad, without leaving the comfort of your home.

Start By Asking Questions

By using the internet, it's easy to explore the credentials and reputation of any hospital providing multifocal LASIK surgery. A hospital's website will typically contain basic information, but it's often not enough to make an informed decision. Look especially for customer feedback and the reputation of any vision clinic being considered, and always schedule a consultation over the phone to ask questions.

It's important to have a list of questions ready to ask when contacting a multifocal LASIK center, but these questions are essential:

a. How often does the hospital perform multifocal LASIK?

b. Is the staff fluent in English?

c. What is expected before, during, and after treatment?

d. Where did the surgeon receive medical training and what additional qualifications and accreditations does he or she hold?

e. Can you see testimonials from other medical travelers who have had the same surgery with the same surgeon? Better yet, can the hospital connect you with a former patient for a conversation?

f. Is the procedure offered the most technologically advanced available?

g. If unforeseen circumstances such as illness prevent you from receiving surgery, what is the refund policy?

h. What visa and passport requirements are there and how far in advance do those requirements need to be met?

Research Medical Accreditation

The first option in researching a hospital abroad is to see if the Joint Commission International (JCI) accredits it. This international commission has a stringent list of criteria that hospitals must meet to receive accreditation. Additionally, if a hospital does receive JCI accreditation, the facility is guaranteed to have its criteria reassessed every four years to make sure it is still in compliance.

Not all quality hospitals have JCI accreditation, but that is not necessarily a red flag that should prevent one from considering a provider. JCI accreditation is a years-long process, and many hospitals do not begin this undertaking until after the first few years of operations, after the requisite high tech equipment purchases and surgical staff investments have been made.

Most countries where medical travel is common have government oversight agencies that provides guidelines, oversight and compliance in health care. Often, these accreditation standards have significant overlap with the JCI requirements..

Hospitals themselves are another, additional source of accreditation for surgeons. High quality institutions such as Group Angeles, Mexico's largest private hospital network, will establish peer review boards that establish internal standards for ensuring that surgical staff are another source of accreditation is pro

In addition to accreditation of the hospital, a surgeon's medical training can build confidence. Many international hospitals and multifocal LASIK vision clinics strive to provide the latest advancements in health care, thus they attract highly sought after surgeons with excellent credentials. When narrowing down qualified surgeons, it's wise to ask what local, regional and national professional organizations they belong to or hold additional certifications to.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) symbol is also important when researching a provider. This ensures that a hospital or vision clinic recognizes internationally recognized standards for health care and follows these standards, but it doesn't hold the same weight as a hospital that has been accredited and received oversight from a health care organization.

Cost of Medical Travel for Multifocal LASIK Surgery

Once a qualified surgeon has been chosen to perform the operation, planning the realities of medical travel can be a hassle. For the best prices and the best service, it's smart to research and choose a medical travel company that will work on your behalf to customize a package, taking into consideration your individual needs, and can provide a detailed quote for the cost of medical travel, including treatment, lodging, travel, and special accommodations. A good medical travel company will help a patient narrow the options to include only the most high quality medical facilities offering multifocal LASIK surgery within the patient's established budget.

By researching health care provider's abroad, medical travelers can be assured that they will not only save money but will also put their health in the qualified hands of a surgeon in a state-of-the-art facility.

The Best Home Care Provider - Who Can You Trust

As people grow old, their siblings main concern is to provide them with home care assistance in their Golden years. It is better safe than sorry. The bottom line is that you are entrusting your loved one to a complete stranger. Therefore, it would be worth the money spent in checking applicant's background.

1. What Is Home Care?

Home care pertains to services that are not medically related. It helps individuals, mostly the elderly, in going through a healthy lifestyle each day. Home care service became well liked mainly due to the fact that the elderly do not need to go to a hospice or house for the elderly to be taken care of. They can just remain at home where they are comfortable and be given services there. As people grow old, home errands like cleaning the house, buying groceries, cooking dishes, opening or carrying something heavy becomes harder. Also, personal grooming like taking a bath, dressing up, even getting up from bed or stairs could be difficult. Now, due to those home care service providers, there are people trained and monitored by agencies to give those types of services. As a rule, people who provide home care should be ready to perform their duty 24 hours each day. Depending on the arrangements, home care providers can work by shift, hourly, living-in or can be called when needed.

2. Types Of Home Care:

Homemaker

This service includes preparing meals, minor house cleaning, laundry, buying food and household needs and other chores at home.

Personal Care

Service totally focused on the daily activities of a client like taking a bath, getting dressed, use of toilet, eating and grooming.

Companionship

This means that the home care provider is just somebody to talk to when needed. For example, the elderly is usually left at home when everybody is at work or in school. A home care provider is hired as a talking buddy. Depending on the arrangements, the service can be over the phone, a daily visit, or a stay-in companion.

Home Health Care Service

This service is performed by professionals that can provide help like nursing, psychiatric care, social work, health aides at home, respiratory therapy, speech development or occupational or physical therapy.

Respite Care

A volunteer trained in home care or professional lives in with the elderly or client. This is a comprehensive care giving service. Any help needed by the client will be provided by the home care provider.

3. Selection Tips:

Money matters

If money is an issue, agencies that provide home services are much expensive compared to individual providers. The advantage of an agency-based though is that they are professionally schooled and trained for the job. Individuals do not provide this assurance unless they present related proof of their professional training as a home care provider.

Easy To Deal With

Home care providers that are agency based have a much more systematic way and processes in dealing with clients. Payment is professionally processed and in case the provider is sick, an agency can give a replacement. Also if a problem comes up regarding the service provider, there is an agency wherein you can file a complaint; whereas for individual home care providers, you have no other person to report to if he or she falters. In case you decided to choose an individual provider instead, here are some things to do to assure that your loved one will be safe and given a good service.

- Know the person

- Perform a thorough interview

- Have clear expectations

- Explain clearly what you expect

- Discuss Salaries Immediately

- Ask for personal information

The Wide World of Caregivers

More and more caregivers are emerging in the world today. There have been more opportunities for them with more job offers. This is because there are more people, young and old who are studying and training to be caregivers. Despite all of the demands, what do care givers really do? There are various types of caregivers who perform different jobs.

Certified Nurse's Aids (CNA) work under the supervision of other health care professionals and are crucial in the home health care team. They are also called Home Heatlh Aides (HHA). Their work includes the assistance of the patients with activities of daily life. They both have to have required and certified training which they have had completed, and have passed practical and written exams. They need to be skilled in procedure such as personal care, toileting, nutrition, taking readings of blood pressure and other health monitoring procedures. They may also provide additional bed care such as changing of clothes, wound treatments, tube feeding, diabetic monitoring and catheter care. In some places, these are two different jobs where the CNA's specializes in healthcare while HHA's have training in homecare.

Registered nurses (RN) are the most competent of all the caregiving options. They must be able to do all of the jobs included in nursing. They are also in charge of looking after and supervising other team members such as certified nurse's aids, home health aides, licensed vocational and practical nurses. They have a broader training as well as a more extensive educational background. They are required to pass a standardized national exam to obtain their license.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) has the authority to perform different nursing procedures. Like the registere nurses, they must satisfy requirements and pass a standardized national exam to be granted their license. The only difference is that although they can do a wide range of nursing jobs, they would still have to work under a physician or a registered nurse. They are also referred to as License Vocational Nurses (LVN).

Homemakers are non-certified aides who provide long-term personal care by assisting or even doing light household work. They may be hired privately of by home care centers for non-medical services. Their work may include, house chores such as housekeeping, laundry, preparation of meals, personal care or even as a companion. They usually come up with a couple of services which may be needed in order to fulfil their duties. Homemakers are supervised especially when they have no professional training.

Social Workers (SW) provide holistic care of the disabled and the sick. They take of the social, environmental, psychological and mental factors which do affect their patients. They are also responsible for counselling and guidance for those who are in need of one. They support those people who are in dire need of affection.

Therapists may be physical (PT), occupational (OT) and speech (ST) help in the improving the situation of the people who have been injured. They help them recover depending on their injuries. They assist the patients to fully recover and go back to how they were before their injury. Therapy is usually given to those who want to regain their flexibility, mobility, dexterity, and even talking.

With all of these caregiving jobs present, there are different agencies in which caregivers can work for. As well as the people, when the time comes that their services are needed they will know which agencies to call.

Home happinesslifetime.com care agencies are usually non-medical and basically just give home care services. Certified nursing assistants, non-certified aides and homemakers usually work in these agencies. These agencies assist the elderly in doing everyday activities which they may find had to do. Your Home Facts and Remedies

"Ah! My home is clean and tidy with the best products I have used! Now I can sit back!"

WAIT!! Don't you lie back with a relaxed mind! Here is something you should know if you are using those 'best products' to keep your home, your family's abode, clean and sparkling.

It is quite evident that women take all the pain to keep your sweet home spotless and sterile. But in that process, you are unknowingly committing your home and kids to those monstrous germs and infections. Read on...

Did you know?

- The 'Janitorial Products Pollution Prevention Project' has reported that out of every 100 janitors, 6 have lost jobs owing to injuries related to toxic cleaning products, especially the glass and toilet cleaners. Imagine what's happening at your place!

- In 2002, The U.S. Geological Survey conducted a survey that revealed that out of the streams sampled, 69% of them contained traces of detergent metabolites and 66% of them contained harmful disinfectants.

- Not only that, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has unveiled the fact that the air inside a home cleaned with those harmful detergents is approximately 2-5 times more contaminated than the air outside. Just imagine... the outside air is safer than your cleaned home air?

Then, what has been done so far?

Satisfactory success has been accomplished by the various laws and enforcements implemented till now. For instance, almost 11 U.S. states have banned the usage of phosphate in detergents. Few other cities and states have even moved a step further by abolishing the usage of certain products and using safer products.

In the year 1994, the city of Santa Monica in California was successful in replacing the traditional cleaners with the less toxic products; on analysis it was further observed that this step lead to a 5% saving on annual overheads and also avoiding the purchase of about 1.5 tons of hazardous toxins that year!

According to the natural goods retailer Seventh Generation, the U.S. market for NATURAL household cleaning products grew to over $100 million in a year. This was just 1% of the aggregate household cleaner market, but since the least five years, about 18-25% growth has been witnessed!

What can you do as an individual?

Now you could easily contribute to this growing percentage of using natural and safer products for your home.

You could start by storing some natural, safe and simple elements to clean your home. For instance, baking soda, lemon juice, mild soaps, vinegar, borax and a coarse scrubbing sponge can take care of most of the cleaning facets at home.

A typical drain cleaner consists of lye, hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid (the deadly combination). Instead, just pour a cup of baking soda on the clogged drain followed by a cup of vinegar. When the fizzing stops, close the drain lid tight and flush it with boiling water. It produces the same result!

To clean the windows and glass, a combination of half white vinegar and half water can do wonders.

Using baking soda and cornstarch can act as amazing carpet deodorizers. And if your oven needs some cleaning, don't touch that detergent: instead use a paste of baking soda, salt and hot water and see the difference!

Your home can be much clean and safe by using safer products- the natural products available in and around your home. Follow us to make your best choice- the facts and solutions are easily available.

How Much Does a Home Loan Mortgage Modification Cost?

This is great question. Because there are two schools of thought on the loan modification cost issue.

School of thought #1 - Loan modification should be free

This is absolutely true. In fact, anyone can apply for a loan modification directly through their lender and in most cases it will be free. Zip, zero, zilch! Free. Many homeowners go this route and have some success working directly with their lender to get their home loan modified.

Also, there are government agencies that are set up to help homeowners in trouble that want loan modification advice. If you want help or advice you can check with a HUD approved counseling agency at (800) 569-4287. You could also check with your state department of real estate or similar to find out what resources are available to you at the State level to assist you with getting a home loan modification. All of these options are free to you.

School of thought #2 - Higher a professional or expert modification company to get the job done right.

There it is hire... hire = money. Well, that's the truth of it, it's going to cost some money to go down this path. A Quality loan modification company is going to charge somewhere between $2,500 and $3,500 for their services. Anybody that's charging less I would seriously wonder if it isn't somebody down in their basement negotiating with your bank.

Is it worth it. Absolutely! Why? Because a professional loan modification company is going to bring a lot more knowledge and expertise to the table than you have on your own. Look, you're an expert at what you do but more than likely you're not well versed in the legal aspects of mortgage banking, state lending laws, RESPA laws, TILLA laws and all of the other legal aspects that go into a mortgage. A professional modification company will have lawyers on staff or retainer that have expertise in these areas that they can bring to bear on your lender.

Also, an expert loan modification company is going to have already established relationships at all of the major banks. When you as the consumer get turned down... they can reach out to these contacts and get the modification done. These industry relationships have a lot of value when it comes to getting loan modifications approved.

Let's be honest with each other for a moment - do you really think the banks care about you and getting the best deal possible for you. Or is it more likely they are mostly concerned with their own bottom line and their own concerns.

As a homeowner, trying to do a loan modification on your own, you are more than likely not familiar with all the different types of deals your bank is structuring and giving out. You wouldn't know that if your bank offers you a fixed 5% rate that they gave a 4% rate to the next guy in a similar situation. That 1% difference on a $200,000 loan would cost you an extra $42,772 over 30 years. A professional home loan modification company will know what a good deal is and represents your interests with the bank - they'll know what a good deal looks like and if they're worth their salt they won't accept anything less than a good deal for you.

Finally, and I think this one is really one of the huge bonuses to clients of an expert loan modification company - you don't have to worry about it. If you're trying to negotiate your own loan modification then you're walking around stressed all the time wondering if you're screwing it up, worrying about why the bank isn't calling back, and wondering if you'll get declined. Engaging the services of a professional mortgage modification company relieves you of that stress and anxiety, and lets you enjoy your life a little more. It frees your mind up to focus on your family, or work, or whatever you want.

For some homeowners there is a lot of value in having a professional on their team... for others... not so much. Either way it's okay. As a consumer you need to choose the best option for you and then move forward and take action.

Alzheimer's Care Facility

More than 4 million American citizens are suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Statistics indicate that the number of sufferers will carry on increase as lots more people will reach the retirement age.

People who are told you have the complaint do not have to be confined in the hospital. The best Alzheimer's care facility does not cost much because the patient can be treated in the comforts of one's home.

What are the alterations that must be done to the home? The best thing is, none. People who are looking after a the patient should just be sure it is clean, jumble and noise free at all times.

If the relatives are busy with other things, an ad may be placed in the paper or anyone can call the agency to have a caregiver look after the sufferer. These specialists are trained to give aid to the patient.

What pursuits are performed in the care facility? For starters, memory exercises will be carried out so the patient can still recall the names of the family members. An elementary one will be through the use of flash cards that have the name and photo of the individual.

Most of the time, the caretaker will be beside the patient. As opposed to sitting around, it wouldn't hurt to strike up a conversation. It doesn't need to be anything serious but just enough to keep the person active because an inactive mind may result in depression.

The person should always make eye-to-eye contact when talking to the patient at the same time speaking slowly and clearly for the other person to understand.

Alzheimer sufferers tend to wander off. The patient could walk the end of the street or even walk farther without the caretaker even knowing and that is worse. A failsafe system has to be put in place like guaranteeing the windows and doors are locked at all times.

Should the patient manage to get out, the second fail-safe will be to attach a bracelet or a card. This will make it easy for somebody to return the individual home or be informed where the sufferer can be learned.

The Alzheimer's care facility is open 24/7 with the majority of the concentration spent at night. This is since the signs are more active during this period so the best method to calm the patient down is through a little exercise.

The patient can help do the dishes or work on the laundry. A mug of warm milk or tea can be presented. If this doesn't work, perhaps going for a little stroll together outside for a little exercise may make the sufferer sleepy and explode to bed.

Some states have nursing homes and trustworthy home care facilities to remedy the patient. There are numbers in the directory along with in the internet that people can inquire.

The person shouldn't be surprised if the place not accept just anyone who can't any longer take on the burden of looking after a the loved one as a consequence of the restricted space and the stage of the ailment.

The individual can choose to pay a huge sum or spend the remaining days with the loved one close to home to at least have a few good memories until the patient will in the end go off to a better place.

Do You Need a License For Legitimate Work at Home Businesses?

I once knew a guy whose great idea for 'legitimate work at home businesses' was to run poker tournaments from his house. Needless to say, that didn't last long once the police heard about it.

If you think you've got an idea for work at home opportunities, legitimate or not, that's going to make you big money, there might be a reason why everyone else isn't doing it - and that reason could be related to the law. Many types of businesses are strictly regulated and controlled by governments.

Gambling.

However fun and profitable it might be to put fruit machines in your house, run a mini card casino or just invite the local old people over to play bingo, it's almost certainly illegal without a license. Gambling is an industry that's almost always strictly controlled - it might be fine to gamble privately with your friends (or, depending on where you live, it might not be), but as soon as you start running it as a work at home business you're on very dodgy ground. You'll also find that most places have laws against for-profit lotteries - sorry. Applying for a license to turn your home into a gambling premises is unlikely to succeed. If you wonder why, consider what would happen if people in your area could do that. It wouldn't be pretty.

Alcohol.

Yes, it seems odd to some people that you need a license to serve alcohol - after all, you can invite people round to your own house for a drink perfectly legally, can't you? As soon as you start charging them for those drinks though, as in work at home businesses, the legitimate nature of what you're doing changes drastically in the eyes of the law, and you're going to need a license. If you don't get one, then you could be heading off to jail for quite a while.

Again, you're going to have trouble getting an alcohol license for your home, unless you're holding some kind of event there and the drinking is just incidental. Alcohol licenses are usually subject to appeals from people who live near the premises being considered, and you can guarantee that your whole neighbourhood is going to turn out to say what a bad idea it would be.

Medics.

If you plan to do anything medical, then you'll probably need a license. When I say medical, I mean doctors, dentists, opticians, and even vets. You might think it'd be fine to turn your home into an 'animal hospital', but you need to be qualified and licensed. Of course, if you've previously been a doctor, dentist, or whatever, then you shouldn't have too much trouble getting licensed to do the same thing from home.

Children.

People get jumpy around children, and you're very unlikely to be able to look after any as part of your work at home opportunities without jumping through all sorts of legitimate hoops. Just to be a nanny, there are all sorts of courses to take and regular inspections to go through. If you ever wonder why there's a shortage of small-scale childcare, it's because it's so hard to keep within the rules while making any profit.

Food.

If you're going to sell food, you usually need to register, for hygiene and safety reasons - imagine if just anyone could sell you food, without any checks! For various reasons most local government agencies are especially strict if you plan to handle raw meat. It's usually fine to sell cooked meat, but raw meat is considered more dangerous. Food licenses aren't too hard to get, anyway, provided you have a relevant hygiene qualification and you're willing to have your kitchen and products inspected at regular intervals.

More.

This list is nowhere near exhaustive - it just covers some of the most common kinds of businesses that people think of. If you're planning to do something more unusual, then you really need to check your local laws whether they are legitimate work at home businesses.

Should I Bother?

Most home business owners don't know about the rules that apply to them, and don't especially care either. Every day you operate in a regulated industry without a license, though, you risk being shut down, or worse. It's only going to take one upset customer or neighbour to get you into big trouble - so unless you want to be worrying all the time, make sure you're properly licensed for whatever you want to do.
