Credit Reports Australia - Are Debt Stressed Aussies Getting The Protection They Need?

Surging numbers of Australians defaulting on their credit agreements has led two of Australia's credit checking firms to call for major credit reporting reforms to tackle the nation's growing debt problem.

Two recent studies conducted by credit reference agencies, Veda Advantage and Dun and Bradstreet have shown alarming increases in the number of people failing to repay the credit they owe.

The study by Veda Advantage, Australia's largest credit ratings business with information on 13 million Aussies, has shown that in parts of Australia the numbers of people defaulting has risen by more than 50 per cent.

Areas with high levels of mortgaged home owners saw rises of 42%, as hard pressed families struggle to cope with interest rate rises. Capital city areas, while seeing fewer defaults, still saw hikes in defaulters by nearly a third.

A spokesman for Veda Advantage said the survey had highlighted regional hotspots of consumers struggling to repay what they owe to lenders.

"This study is significant as it demonstrates that people living in regional Australia as well as those in mortgage belt suburbs are struggling over other areas to repay the credit they owe.

"The drought and other environmental hardships, as well as rising interest rates may have paid their toll as country families seem to be suffering more than their city cousins.

"We are also concerned about the rise in defaults in mortgage belt suburbs as some families purchasing their own houses are also struggling to repay money," she added.

Veda Advantage have said the study reinforces the need for decisive action to reform credit reporting laws to protect borrowers and lenders, especially in light of growing concerns about interest rates and the cost of living.

A separate study conducted by Dun and Bradstreet has shown that young Aussies are the most likely to get a call from a lender's collections department. More than half of debtors are under the age of 35, according to the Dun and Bradstreet study.

Other key findings show many consumers are defaulting on low value debts of less than $500, with men more likely to suffer re-payment problems than women. Victorians are the most likely to have a debt referred to debt collectors.

A Dun and Bradstreet spokesman echoed the view of Veda Advantage that credit reporting reforms were needed to help with better lending decisions.

She added: "Consumers need to think carefully about the levels of debt they are taking on. However with years of reports about ever increasing debt stress we have to accept that our current credit reporting laws aren't working and we need to make changes. Those changes must include improved credit reporting laws."

Victorians and New South Welshmen and women top the league table for debts referred to collectors, at an average of $3,000, according to the checkmyfile.com.au credit report supplier. Victorians account for 40 per cent of the debt referred to collectors. Men are incurring debts of $600 more than women and account for 52 per cent of debt passed to debt collectors.

While young Aussies under 35-years-of-age account for one third of debt sent to collectors, debtors between the ages of 35-44 have the highest average default debt of about $6,000.

How Is In-Home Care Paid For?

Millions of aging individuals are able to remain living in the comfort of their own home by receiving safe and effective care by hiring professional personal care agencies. There are several ways to pay for non-medical, in-home care services. However, the vast majority of care is paid from the savings and resources of the individual receiving care or from their family. This is type of payment is commonly referred to as private pay or out-of pocket payment.

Some state and local programs exist for low income seniors but are limited and usually cover only short-term home care needs. Medicare does not cover non-medical care except when certain custodial services are part of an authorized medical home care episode and, of course, the person is Medicare eligible.

Long-Term Care (LTC) insurance currently pays for about 20% of the care in the country. LTC companies generally pay a fixed benefit per day and have a maximum benefit limit they will pay for in-home care given certain necessary requirements are satisfied. Many home care agencies will assist you in complying with the requirements of your LTC carrier. These may include verification of policy benefits, performing a pre-evaluation, obtaining a doctor's order, completing daily care notes and billing you for service rendered. It is generally your responsibility to pay the agency and to submit the bills to your LTC insurance carrier for payment on your policy. Some agencies do accept assignment of benefits, meaning they do all the paperwork and get paid directly by your LTC carrier.

The payment rates, terms and programs of in-home care agencies vary. However, their rates are generally priced on either an hourly, per day, or per shift including a 'live-in' basis. Some determine their charges based on the level of care needed, while others charge a flat rate per hour or day regardless of the care needed. Paying an upfront deposit is common in the industry. Agencies usually bill twice each month or on a monthly cycle. Payment by check is the most common form of payment although many agencies are set up for automatic debit payment. Fewer accept major credit cards because of the high fees associated with this form of payment.

As private payment is the most common form of payment within the industry, any agency will be able to fully describe their payment requirements when asked.

Mortgage Refinancing: 3 Tips to Avoid Overpaying Before You Apply

Mortgage refinancing can be a stressful time for anyone. Before choosing a mortgage lender there are several steps you should take to ensure you don't pay too much for your new greeneasylife.com mortgage loan. Here are 3 tips to help you prepare for your mortgage application and ensure you don't overpay when mortgage refinancing.

Mortgage Refinancing - Choosing The Right Mortgage Type

Mortgage refinancing comes in two basic varieties: loans with adjustable interest rates and those with fixed interest rates. Don't automatically dismiss adjustable rate mortgages because someone told you that you'll have payment shock when interest rates go up. Homeowners that fully understand how Adjustable Rate Mortgages Work can save thousands of dollars in finance charges. If you have a low tolerance for financial risk and need a mortgage payment you can plan your budget around, choosing a fixed interest rate could grant you the peace of mind you need.

Mortgage Refinancing - Check Your Credit Reports First

Before you do anything else, request copies of your credit reports from each of the three credit reporting agencies and carefully review your records for errors. The interest rate you will qualify is based on your credit score, and your credit score is derived from the contents of your credit reports. Credit records are extremely prone to errors and can severely damage your score. If you find errors in your credit records you need to dispute them before applying for mortgage refinancing.

Mortgage Refinancing - Shop For The greeneasylife.com Best Loan Offer

Comparison shopping when mortgage refinancing can save you thousands of dollars. When comparing loan offers it is important to use the Good Faith Estimate instead of the Annual Percentage Rate (APR). The APR does not give enough information to make an informed decision; using the Good Faith Estimate allows you do perform a line-by-line comparison of each mortgage offer you consider. Getting a Mortgage Online

Do you plan to do all of your research for the best home financing choices, submit a home financing application, and get approval all on the Internet? This article details the process on just how to go about home financing research, how to shop appropriately, and how uncover the greeneasylife.com best loan deals on the Internet.

Set your mortgage goal with a clear and concise objective in mind. With this first step done, you will know your financial capabilities, monthly payment ability, and maximum loan amount you can conceivably qualify for. It is a good idea to also consider how long you plan to keep the property because there are different mortgage options for short term and long term ownership that will be beneficial to you.

Credit Reports & Scores:

Before you set out to shop online mortgage lender options, you should consider paying for a "tri-bureau merged" credit report with scores included. This is a very important document that the lender will require in order to process your loan. Credit agencies are obliged to give you one free credit report every year. However, this free report won't hold the coveted credit scores nor will it be a "tri-bureau merged" report. Once you get the report check it very carefully to make sure all the information recorded is accurate. Check your "middle score" and see if you have a good enough score to obtain the mortgage you'd like. These three scores can be compared with your lenders credit score to be sure they got the right report.

Using your credit score online to get quotes is a matter of just inputting your estimate of your score with words like "excellent", "good", "fair", or "poor". I'll give my estimation as a score between 750-850 as "excellent", 650-750 as "good", 550-650 as "fair", and finally below 550 as "poor". You don't need a credit score to complete these online forms. You can estimate your score without actually knowing it the following way: Never made a late payment in the last two years = "excellent", a few late payments in the last two years = "good", made as many late payments as on time payments in the last two years = "fair" and if you made more late payments than not in the last two years = "poor".

Financial Documentation:

Gather all your financial documentation like bank statements, pay stubs, tax records, etc. You are going to need this information when getting online mortgage quotes. You should already have a rough calculation of how much your household makes before taxes every month and how much your debt obligations cost you monthly as well.

These two figures are used to calculate your Debt-to-Income (DTI) ratio. This ratio needs to be below 38% to get the best rates and programs. Here's how to estimate this for yourself. For example, you make $3,000 gross per month and your spouse makes $3,000...a total of $6,000 gross income per month. Now let's say you have two car payments equaling $500 per month and a credit card with a minimum payment of $150 a month. Now let's say you are looking at a home mortgage with a PITI payment of $1500 per month. Your total debts with this anticipated mortgage payment is now equal to $2,150 a month.

Your Debt-to-Income ratio is then $2,150/$6,000 = 35.83%...inside the 38% max DTI.

Don't apply for a mortgage so large that your DTI exceeds 38%. You are asking to get denied. Know your DTI BEFORE you apply and stay under the 38% limit!

Along with DTI, you'll need to know your LTV or Loan-To-Value. If you are buying a home, you'll also need a down payment number to a Loan-to-Value can be calculated. For example, if you are buying a home for $100,000 with a $10,000 down payment, the Loan-to-Value is 90%. Now a day, applying for a purchase loan above 95% is asking to be denied. If you are refinancing paying off a second mortgage or other debt, applying for a mortgage above 90% is asking to be denied.

Know your LTV and don't apply for mortgages at too high LTV's...you'll just be denied.

Getting Online Mortgage Quotes:

Now you are ready to start trawling the internet in search of greeneasylife.com mortgage loan quotes. The online lenders ask basic questions covering income, credit rating, loan amount, etc. and provide quotes very quickly, based on your information. Once you have your quotations lined up you can start comparing them to draw up a list of potential mortgage lenders that you wish to consider. You need to be aware that the mortgage rates will depend on various factors such as property location, credit scores, and Loan-to-Value as well as market forces.

Mortgage Quote Comparison:

With the detailed online mortgage quotations in hand start comparing what each lender has quoted. Remember to pay attention to the lender's fees as well as the rate. Be sure each quote is reflecting the same amount of discount points as discount points are used widely to obfuscate higher than normal rates. Try to get all your quotes on the same day and on the same loan program so each lender gives you something you can compare without variation.

For example, on the same day you get 4 quotes on a 30 year fixed conventional loan with no points. Then once you get all 4, you can compare the rates and the costs. You've limited what you must compare. It makes it easier to pick the quote with the lowest rate and costs. If all the quotes come back at 5% for example, now you just pick the lender with the lowest closing costs. If 2 come back at 5% and 2 at 4.75%, you'll look at the costs of all 4 and if you have equal closing costs, you pick the one with the lowest rate.

Converting a Quote to An Application:

Complete the online formalities with the lender you have picked. Most lenders have online application services, so contact the lender, discuss you loan quote with a loan officer and determine how you will convert your quote to an application. Once the online application is run through an automated approval system, you'll be issued a "pre-approval". With a pre-approved greeneasylife.com mortgage loan in hand you are ready to start the buying process. The online lender will send you the paperwork to be reviewed, signed and returned along with supporting documentation. Final approval usually takes a few weeks after receiving this paperwork.

I trust we have made the process of loan shopping, comparing rates, applying, and getting final approval all on the Web a rapid, simple process to understand and put into practice. With these tips, I know you'll increase your chance of getting a good deal and give you a relatively hassle-free experience as well.

How to Select a Homecare Agency

Most people only think about using the help of a homecare agency once they need it, which means that decisions are often made during a particularly stressful time. It's important that you don't panic; research each agency before you decide which one to choose.

A homecare service will help people who are experiencing difficulties managing at home. It's for people who feel they may need assistance with their day-to-day lives.

This first step towards arranging help from a Agency home care agency is to ask for an assessment of your needs, either from the council or a homecare agency. It's also known as a community care or needs assessment.

After the assessment you should be provided with a care plan. That's simply a statement that explains what the needs are and how they will be met.

Once you know what levels of care are required, you can then assess the agencies which can help you. Each home care agency must produce a 'statement of purpose', which includes details such as the aims of the agency, the nature of the service provided and terms and conditions.

You should find out what procedures are in place to protect you or the person who is being cared for from accidents or other causes of harm. It is standard practise to prevent home carers from accepting gifts or money, using your personal property, such as your mobile phone and disposing of your property. All care staff should have identification at all times, which includes a photo, their name and the agency's name, in large print for people with visual disabilities. Written records must also be kept, with details of carewatch.co.uk/home/about-carewatch-carers home care nursing and medicines administered recorded properly.

If you are happy that the home care agency complies to all legislation and codes of practise, it is then time to use personal preferences to whittle the list down.

The most important thing to remember is not to panic and make an impulse decision. After all, the home carer will play an important part in the life of the person who is being cared for, and provide vital services for the rest of their life.

Daycare - Ask Questions Before Selecting Child Care Center

The care a child receives is a vital element in health and development. If parents work outside of the home, it is extremely important to find high quality daycare. There are many factors to consider in selecting the right childcare. Get answers to these questions before making any decisions.

- Type of facility - What type of daycare are you seeking: care in your own home, care at the home of a childcare provider, or care at a center? Determine the pros and cons of each and make a decision based on your family's specific needs.

- Location - Is your child far from home or work? Can you get there quickly in case of an emergency?

- Licensing - Is the provider licensed with the appropriate government agency? Were there any past violations?

- Visiting - Can you visit your child any time of the day?

- Experience/training - What kind of experience and/or training does the provider have?

- Staffing - Is the adult/child ratio appropriate according to the nationally recognized standards?

- Program - Is there a daily schedule? Are children involved in activities that are age-appropriate? Are there learning activities? Is there time for reading and talking, rest, snacks and meals? Is the food nutritious and suitable for the age groups?

- Rest/Sleep - Is there a sleeping or quiet area large enough with at least 3 feet of space between each child? Are there cribs, cots or mats to sleep on and do children stay in view of the staff?

- Play - Are there enough safe toys within easy reach of the children? Are toys that infants or children put in their mouths sanitized before used by another child? Is the outside play area and equipment well maintained and working properly? Is the area fenced?

- Illness/Injury - What is the policy for sick children? What procedures are in place if your child is injured?

- References - Ask for references and check them.

If your child is new to daycare, there may be an adjustment period before he or she feels comfortable in the new surroundings. It may be helpful to introduce your child slowly by leaving him or her for short periods of time at first, rather than an entire day. If your child is old enough to understand, talk about what they will experience. Be positive and encouraging. Allow your child to take a favorite toy, picture, or other reminder of home for comfort. High quality daycare can help promote a child's physical, social and mental development. As a parent, the quality of care your child receives is your responsibility. If you have questions or need advice about the type of care your child requires, talk to your family physician. Finally, if you ever suspect a problem or feel the health or safety of your child is in danger, remove your immediately. No one knows your child better than you. Trust your instincts.

Working at home though is a whole new kettle of fish, you have to be quite a disciplined person as the temptations or distractions are aplenty. Your mission is to make money online and work from home right, so the distinctions between home time and work time still need to be there. You see, it is easy to wake up and decide I won't get dressed for work cos I'm already at work, cool, actually I might just decide to do a load of washing or wash the dishes or do some chores when in actual fact you should be working. My point is, develop from the onset the habits and routines which will make your life easier from day one.

If you have a separate room you can convert into an office even better, Get up at the same time every day, get dressed like you are going to work, you might not have to be all "dressed up" but create the atmosphere of work and remember your mission is to make money online and work from home. It is so easy to get distracted with friends popping by, the phone ringing all the time, kids, chores etc etc.

It is also a virtually cost free option and your only expense you should consider is how to acquire the knowledge to make money online, be very careful before you sign up to anything.

I make money online and work from home but allow me to please point out that it does take work, commitment and persistence. It is not rocket science but it does require effort and like anything else in life, learning.

There are NO free rides in life and please be careful and selective when searching for opportunities as there are scams. Affiliate Marketing is but one way to make money online and work from home, and it is the perfect vehicle to generate cash-flow which in turn will finance other opportunities. To make money online through affiliate marketing will give you a huge understanding of the entire workings of the internet and then comfortably allow you to market any product you wish to sell yourself, it does not have to be someone else's product.

Credit Repair and Self Empowerment

Credit Repair and the FTC Smoke Screen

The FTC did not set out to do you wrong. Without a doubt, they are well intentioned and have your well being at heart. Unfortunately, the heavy-handed FTC campaign against the bad apples in the credit repair business has tainted the rest of the barrel and has unintentionally imposed a terrible cost on consumers.

The Credit Repair Conundrum

Credit repair is in a similar class with taxes and healthcare. All of these are of great importance and are somewhat shrouded in mystery. The more important an issue is, the more likely it is to evoke fear. There are few things as important to your financial wellbeing as your credit, and few things as complex. Millions of people ought to be seeking credit repair help, but when they encounter the FTC warnings at the outset of their efforts it is often enough to stop them in their tracks. The social cost of this delusion is enormous.

Credit Repair Good Guys

It is true that there are bad guys in the credit repair business. The last time I looked this was true of every industry without exception. As of the time of this writing the bad guys in the credit repair business are fewer than ever, and a significant number of credit repair good guys have emerged. These white knight companies deliver essential and valuable services in a professional manner to the great benefit of their customers.

The Prevalence of Errors

There are several reasons credit repair is an essential service in today's world. The product produced by the credit bureaus is enormously influential. You might not think of credit reports as products, but that is exactly what they are, no different really from automobiles or computers. They are assembled, passed through a quality control process, and sold. Unfortunately, like many other products there are flaws.

The Crazy Cost of Errors

The flaws in the credit reporting system can be as dangerous as a manufacturing flaw in an automobile. Your life can depend on the quality of the product you buy and your credit report is no exception. About seventy percent of all credit reports contain errors. Credit report errors can lead to higher interest rates and loan denial; these are life-changing consequences.

Credit Repair Reality

Congress spent years debating the fearful impact of the credit bureaus on our lives. The legislation they hammered out is called the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). In a way this is a consumer protection law, but it is equally intended to protect the three national credit reporting agencies we refer to as the credit bureaus. It is true that congress was heavily lobbied by the credit reporting industry during the creation of the FCRA, but I can't cry conspiracy. There are economic realities involved with running any big business and these must be respected.

Look Out For Yourself

Congress had little choice but to attempt to balance the need for credit-reporting accuracy with the economic restrains of quality control. The end result is simple. Credit reports are as accurate as they are going to get, and consumers' better look out for themselves. The creation of AnnualCreditReport.com, the site where you can get your credit reports once a year for free, is a stipulation of the FCRA and an attempt by congress to provide us with an opportunity to manage our own credit repair efforts.

Overcoming Inertia

You just need to get off your butt. Inertia is natural when we are faced with any confusing task, but like jumping into the water it's not so bad once you get into it. Get your credit reports. Start your credit repair project. There are numerous ways to do this. Not withstanding the deceptive advertising of dozens of websites that offer so-called free credit reports, AnnualCreditReport.com is the only site you can get your reports for free.

On the Other Hand

This is not to say that it is the best site to get your reports for free. On the contrary, in spite of my approval of the creation of the site, it's really pretty difficult to maneuver. Personally, I'd spend a few bucks and get a simple tri-merged report. If you look carefully through the TrueCredit.com site (A TransUnion site) you can get a great tri-merged report without joining their monthly program, for $14.95.

Hire a Credit Repair Pro

Many people find the prospect of digging into the credit repair project just too much to handle. If you are busy and have enough going on in your life without taking the time to figure all of this out, just get on line and find one of the credit repair good guys. There is plenty of credit repair help available if you need it. Either way, it's your credit, so please take care of it!

Nursing Homes and "Nanny Cams"

Nursing Homes are about the last places anyone wants to be, but about 1.6 million people now live in some type of nursing facility in the United States. Believe it or not, 30 years from now, the number is expected to be a whopping 5 million.

As necessary as these facilities are, many patients have been placed at risk; according to government figures, one out of four nursing homes every year is cited for causing death or serious injury to a resident.

Eighty-three percent of elderly Americans have been interviewed and most everyone said they would stay in their homes until the end if they could. Thirty percent say they'd rather die than go into a nursing home. And their fears may be well founded. As there are a rising number of abuses in nursing homes, due to fact that many workers hired aren't properly screened. Indeed across the nation, dangerous nursing home workers are not being detected, and elderly people certainly aren't being protected.

As many as 33 states do some sort of background check on a cross-section of nursing home workers but none require a national background check.

Since many nursing home residents have limited abilities to communicate, identifying potential abuse requires careful monitoring. Looking for the signs of nursing home abuse requires frequent visits to the nursing home or assisted living facility but of the people working there will know if you are watching trying to catch them abusing your parent or friend.

A hidden camera could be the ideal covert solution to record the activities going on day to day and to let you know exactly how your loved one is being treated. And a nanny cam could be your best chance for recording and documenting physical abuse of your loved one. But the inherent problem with hidden cameras is that they need an external recorder like a DVR or Time Lapse VCR to be connected to it to record the insidious events. Obviously, this isn't possible in a nursing home or other caregiver location.

A Stand Alone Hidden Camera/DVR (StealthCam) allows you to daily see what's really going on and leaves no tell-tale signs that covert video is being recorded.

These are some steps to follow if you suspect that your loved one is being abused.

o Visit frequently. To assess the care provided, vary your visits to different times of the day and evening.

o Buy a Stand Alone Hidden Camera/DVR that will record all covert video surveillance. Motion activated real time video or high-resolution "still shots" are recorded on a tiny Secure Digital (SD) card, housed in a hidden compartment. All recordings are time/date stamped for legal reference, if necessary. The SD card, which is used to record the covert video, is removable from the unit and can be played on your PC via included SD card reader, or viewed directly on your TV. No additional software needed.

o Talk to nurses and aides about your concerns.

o Talk to the Director of Nurses, Social Worker and Administrator.

o Talk to the doctor.

o Call your state oversight agency. In each state there is a division of the Department of Health which deals with oversight of nursing homes and enforcement of nursing home regulations. This agency conducts yearly surveys of each nursing home and also investigates complaints filed by family members. Find out who the state licensing agency is from your nursing home. They are required to provide this information to you when your place a resident in the nursing home.

o If you believe that your family member may be a victim of any form of abuse or neglect by the nursing home, you can and should file a complaint with the state Licensing and Certification Division. They are required to investigate your complaint. If the Licensing and Certification division substantiates your complaint, they have the authority to issue a citation against the facility, impose a fine, and require corrective action.

A Million Dollar Business from Humble Beginnings - The Perfect Business Model

The Perfect Business Model

Many people slaving away in a reasonably paid job realize that they could be doing far better for themselves and will at this moment be thinking of breaking free of the corporate shackles and discovering the freedom of having their own business.

Looking back now, I can categorically state that I owe my directors a huge debt of gratitude because it was due to their lack of urgency in taking care of my career needs that decided me to take my future into my own hands.

Corporate career employees often need a severe reality check to jolt them out of their comfort zones, however they may still shy away from breaking into their own businesses for various reasons including lack of funding and personal debt.

Well if this sounds like you, this is how you can start a business with a low capital investment.

The biggest risk you take will be giving up your corporate job, if this is in fact deemed a risk at all, and your reputation.

The model my business was structured on was based on utilizing a variable resource, limited investment in fixed overhead and employing the appropriate resources for a particular position or demand.

Expanding on the above, these are the keys to the perfect business model.

1. Personnel Structure

Your first task and the most important part of ensuring the long term sustainability of your business is identifying and recruiting the most competent capabilities to fill your business' key positions, for example, general management, operations, finance and sales & marketing.

Giving your key personnel a stake in the organization would ensure their commitment and loyalty and ultimately their contribution to the long term objective of the business, ie success and profits.

It is also important to agree in writing the exact functions each person will perform and with as little overlap as possible.

2. Strategy

The next step is for an overall strategy and action plan to be formalized and agreed upon in conjunction with the resource requirements.

The resources that are to be used in the business need to be recruited based on service and cost. These resources, which will be your core business service providers, will only be used when required and hence the variable cost.

This also means that when there is zero activity there will be zero cost to you and as far as service goes your hand picked contractors will be highly customer driven.

Not only will you not have staff, vehicles and equipment idle and costing money when you aren't busy but these assets will not need investment in management and maintenance.

3. Capital Investment - Fixed Overhead

The only fixed overhead you should have to invest in, remembering that your main business activities would be carried out by contractors with their own vehicles and equipment, should be office furniture. Expensive office equipment could be employed on a hire-maintenance contract or such like.

This could even be extended to office staff which could be hired from agencies so you aren't landed with employee hassles and absenteeism.

A significantly important aspect to the success of this model is not investing in assets which always require managing, servicing or replacement.

If this model is applied correctly it should leave the key personnel time to manage the business without being distracted by less important issues as well as leaving the business with unlimited growth prospects without being restricted by funding constraints.

This business model was responsible for my bank overdraft being transformed to millionaire status and can enable anyone to start out with low capital investment, low risk but with a real opportunity at huge success.

Easy Money From Home

OPPORTUNITIES KNOCKING AT YOUR DOORSTEP

A retiree from top corporation, a temp staff without a current assignment, a college student waiting for the next term, an injured athlete recuperating from orthopedic surgery, a full-time homemaker taking care of her toddlers, a listless employee who is not comfortable in his nine to five job - all these people have one thing in common. They can take advantage of opportunities that allow them to make money from home. Whoever wants or needs to stay home for some reason and yet cannot afford not to have income can choose from a lot of options to make money from home.

Opportunities for making money are not anymore confined to employment or business. There is a work from home business to fit every interest. Anyone can capitalize on his own skills to make money from home. There are certain services that can be rendered from home for a professional fee. Consultancy services can be set up and projects can be accepted on an as needed basis. The kind of equipment that needs to be set up in a home office depends on the kind of service being offered. For certain businesses, it may not be necessary to come up with a set up at all.

An accountant can take on bookkeeping projects and work on them in his home office. Other services that can be provided to make money from home include, home improvement services (interior decorating, bathroom tiling, upholstery sewing etc.), child care services or babysitting, administrative services (virtual office, travel agency, manpower placement etc.), and creative services (craft making and selling, website designing, art painting, song writing etc.).

Another way to make money from home is through online money-making opportunities. Those with sales inclination can earn money by way of joining affiliate marketing programs or selling goods through the internet. Popular for their "unlimited earnings" claim, these affiliate marketing programs pay commissions for sales generated from consumers who were "referred" to the site by the publisher. There are affiliate marketing schemes that pay for every hit that originates from a publisher's site.

There are also internet businesses that have tiered compensation schemes. In a two-tier scheme, publishers are compensated not only for the business they refer to a site but for the subsequent businesses referred by those they have referred. In a multi-tier scheme, the compensation scheme is designed like multi-level or network marketing schemes. Compensation is given to the publisher for affiliates who sign up using his sign-up code and for the subsequent activities of the referred affiliate down to the succeeding affiliate referrals.

Other skill-based online ways to make money from home include medical transcribing, freelance writing or blogging, web content writing, website designing, data encoding, rebate processing, claims processing and participating in online paid surveys. These online jobs definitely require some level of computer and internet literacy. A computer set up with broadband connection is essential in a home office for these online jobs.

Even those who want or need to stay at home for whatever reason have opportunities to earn income. They can probably even have higher income earning potential on businesses with "unlimited earnings." With the right match of work-from-home business opportunity and individual skills set, you are well on your way to successfully making money from home.

How to Make Sure That You Never End Up Living in a Nursing Home

It goes without saying that nobody wants to end up in a nursing home. It's the single worst scenario in most people's imagination. Would it be an exaggeration to say it's "a fate worse than death"? Not to worry, it's avoidable, and I am going to tell you how. But first let's explore some ideas and define what a nursing home is.

First of all, you should know that on any given day in the U.S., 1 out of 4 people over the age of 65 are in a nursing home, temporarily. The chances of you, your parent or spouse spending some time in a nursing home at some point in your life is also 25%. Pretty high right? But keep in mind, that there is a vast difference between spending some days recovering from a hospital stay before going home, and living in a nursing home. Let me clarify that for you.

There are several synonymous names for a nursing home: S.N.F. (pronounced "sniff") otherwise known as a skilled nursing facility, convalescent hospital, Rehab, rehabilitation hospital, even sanitarium. "A rose by any other name..." right? Nowadays, if an older person has a stay in the hospital, they still need some recovery time before they can safely go back home. It might be a hip fracture, a broken arm, or even an infection or a bout of pneumonia; nevertheless they are going to spend a few days or a few weeks recovering before being allowed to go home. These days hospitals release people "sicker and quicker" due to the Medicare reimbursement schedules. Several years ago to save money, the Medicare system went through every conceivable cause for hospitalization and gave it a value of x-number of hospital days, then told hospitals "this is what we will pay you...period. And it's now a fact of life that nursing homes are a major player in the Medicare system, because they are cheaper than hospitals. So unless you are scheduled for surgery or you are in ICU, you are getting shipped out ASAP to a skilled nursing facility.

However, at any given time a large percentage of patients in nursing homes are there for the rest of their life. They are considered to be in "custodial care". They are never going home. They are usually people that need to be on 'machines' or just plain ran out of money and now Medicaid is footing the bill. But chances are for most of them, it could have been avoided.

So how do you avoid ending your days in a nursing home? Compromise. I will tell you that the best way to avoid a nursing home is to move into a board & care or an assisted living before you get so sick that you lose all your options. It's like this: many older adults refuse to consider assisted living until it's too late and then end up in a nursing home, sometimes for 5 or 6 years. And it was avoidable. This is why: there are some weird rules in the licensing of an assisted living community that make it easy to "age-in-place" if you are already living there when you start declining.

But the same rules make it very hard to move into an assisted living if you are seriously chronically ill and trying to move in for the first time.

For example, imagine two people that are very chronically ill, the one that moved into the assisted living early on, is allowed to stay, even go on hospice for the remainder of their days, but the other that was living at home when their health turned worse will likely have a very difficult time moving into the A.L. community. The reason is most assisted livings usually do not want to take someone that will drain their resources, and/or the licensing agency will not allow admission to assisted living because the severity of their illness. And if you are on a limited income - forget about it. Assisted Livings and board and care homes are private pay only. Medicare and Medicaid will not contribute a dime for you to live in assisted living (even though it's cheaper for them). Why is another article, let's just say Medicare and Medicaid pay for medical issues and assisted living is considered a social issue. The much longer explanation can be found on government websites, or you can check the sites listed in my bio.

But to be perfectly honest, most people that are struggling to live alone should not hesitate to move into an assisted living community! Unfortunately in many people's mind they think that they are maintaining their "independence" by struggling alone at home, when in fact they are far from independence. And this is a major delusion because most older adults who live alone are isolated, they rarely get out, they don't eat well, they can't keep up with the cleaning let alone basic home maintenance. They are often depressed because they have, in most cases, lived alone for years with only a television for company and most of their friends have passed on or moved away. Yet they continue to stay at home alone without proper care, nutrition, or socialization. Against all logic and argument to the contrary, they stubbornly hang on to their delusion of independence.

Let me paint a picture for you. A move to an assisted living community is like a combination of moving into an apartment and going on an Alaskan cruise. Forgive my over-generalization but imagine this: in assisted living you have an apartment-like suite that includes meals, housekeeping, and tons of socialization and activities. A typical day consists of getting up and going for breakfast in a restaurant setting and while you are out the housekeeper comes and makes your bed (once a week she changes all your linins). After breakfast you can go to the exercise class or the library or just go watch TV. When lunch time rolls around you go down to the dining room and have a nutritious meal and then head over to the next activity or go take a nap, before you know it, its dinner time. And after dinner there is a movie in the Theatre before you go to bed. Sounds nice? Keep in mind that you never again have to shop for groceries, cook, or wash a single dish. You don't have pay the utilities, maintain a car, or even do your laundry. Every moment of the day is yours to do with as you will. Now tell me who is really the "independent" person? Best of all, you are able to "age-in-place". You will develop new friendships and will have an emotional support structure that will remain with you indefinitely. Most people that come to assisted living are fairly healthy with the usual assortment of aging related issues, but as they get older they will need more help: assisted living offers things like medication management, bathing assistance, laundry service, transportation, housekeeping, meals, incontinence care and even dedicated one-on-one care. But few people need even half of these services when they first move in. That's what we mean by aging-in-place.

To review, the way most board and care homes and assisted livings communities are licensed, a person can stay in an assisted living no matter how bad they get; even until they qualify for hospice and end of life. (There are some prohibitive conditions, but they are so severe, you would not imagine them in anything but a clinical setting, like feeding tubes and breathing machines). So if you are willing to compromise your "independence" a little early on, you can spend your last few years in a supportive, apartment-like setting, and guarantee that younever end up in "custodial care" at a nursing home.

Building a Successful Ad Agency

Surviving in the Advertising and Marketing world for 35 years hasn't been easy, especially if you want to live a normal life. Having a normal life means having other things in your life other that your work. I have had the good fortune to experience an incredibly successful ride that I am still on, and which I continue to work hard at every day. I continue to learn something new every day, and then share those new ideas with both my colleagues and my clients. What a blast! I've been asked many times to share the secrets to my success, and I do gladly because I believe that one my gifts is helping others; that's one of the reasons I make a good ad guy, I like helping people figure out how to succeed in their endeavors. But when it comes to having a successful small business, I believe that the guiding principles that my wife and I have established along the way were, and still are pivotal to our success.

So, here are the ten guiding principles that have shaped our successful business:

1. Our Business Culture is a Family Style Environment. If you come from a dysfunctional family and you know it, but don't want to change, then this principle is probably something you should pass on. But for us, this remains a critically important element of our success. We treat our staff like family. We celebrate all major holidays and we work hard at remembering everyone's birthday, their wives and husbands names along with their children's names. When there's a personal emergency we are there to help them. We have monthly staff lunches, not to discuss business, but rather to enjoy each other's company. We even celebrate back-to-school-day by having a special breakfast that my wife makes for everyone.

We also know that our family functions better when we are honest with each other; and when we have to speak about difficult topics, we speak the truth in love.

And, just like with our family, we must keep current. I do that daily with my staff by walking through the office and stopping to catch up with them. I know it sounds so insignificant but it pays off in big dividends, because our team will do whatever it takes to get the job done for our clients. They also know that our collective survival depends on them.

Early on in my career I have learned to attack problems not people, and, to act rather than react. It's probably part of how I am wired, I like solving problems and helping people, so why would I attack and hurt anyone.

We got this idea of creating a family culture in our work environments, believe it or not, from my mother. She had away of making anyone that came into our home feeling accepted and welcomed. Her motto was biblical, but she never preached it...SHE LIVED IT! "Love everyone that will let you." (Paraphrased by Mom) Matt. 18:6

So, I learned from an early age the first secret of success from a master that cared about everyone.

Lastly, we say grace at every meal we have together, just like we do at home.

2. Treat Everyone with Respect.

Maybe it's just me, but I get my feelings hurt when I stop at a convenience store to buy something and when I make my purchase the cashier hardly recognizes me and if he says anything he or she will say something like "have a nice day", me, the customer, in return say "thank you". It irritates me so much that I now say, "you too".

I purposely go out of my way to open the door for the UPS guy, and thank him for the delivery. Every vendor, every sales person, everyone that comes into our office looking for directions, I treat with respect, and I expect everyone that works with me to do the same. Why? Because my dad taught me early in life to say thank you, and yes sir, and yes ma'am. And, my dad would always open doors for people when passing. He never told me to hold the door for someone. He just did it! I hold doors open for people because it's the right thing to do, and because everyone is always, I MEAN ALWAYS, watching the boss. So don't drop you guard. Giving a little respect to people can go a long way.

3. Hire Team Members that are Smarter than Yourself.

This takes raw courage. Imagine how far you'll get in life if you surround yourself with dwarfs and robots that always agree with the you, even when they all know you are wrong. You will succeed much faster, much more successfully, if you have the guts and courage to higher giants. Trust me they will make you look smart, and then someday you will look back and realize you have learned so much from them that you'll be smart too!

4. Creativity Reigns without Fear of Rejection.

Many, many years ago I had a client that would demoralize his staff and me as we presented our creative ideas. No matter how hard we tried in his mind it was "Crap"! Oh, how I hate that word. Nothing destroys the creative process more than rejection, or the fear of rejection. Now that doesn't mean as the senior creative director that I can't tell someone that what he or she is doing isn't working yet. I find that we get better results by offering suggestions or ideas rather than bad mouthing the idea and the person. So around here Seagulls are not welcome.

5. Provide a Path for Staff to Grow.

This is very important because if your staff is not growing then something is wrong, and they should leave, sooner than later. I want each of our staff members to grow in four areas: I want them to grow intellectually because I know that the smarter each member becomes the more they contribute in many ways. Secondly, I want to see each team member grow financially. This makes a lot of sense when you think about it. If I continue to financially reward those that work hard and help the company succeed, then we are both very happy.

The next area that I want to be sure that I provide for the team is a work environment that allows some social interaction. This has to be done with great balance. You've heard the expression "All work and no play makes a dull boy". And we also know that "all play instead of making hay will make you poor". When you pick great team members they can figure it out.

The fourth and most important area, in my opinion, is their spiritual growth. If I provide a great work place that allows each person to grow professionally, financially and socially, and I fail at providing a spiritual foundation - that there is a God that made this beautiful creation from the smallest micro-organism to the largest planet, and everything in between, and that His name is Jesus, yes the Jesus of the Bible ?- and, if I don't explain to each person that eternity is a gift to those that believe in His name, and what He has done for us on the cross at Calvary 2000 years ago, then I am a miserable failure.

6. Keep Things Simple. This is easier said than done, but so important. If you study design and the work of the fortune 100 companies you will notice that most of what they communicate is sophisticated and elegant yet simple. But it goes deeper than just the creative design work we do. I encourage staff to write simple, short, easy to understand sentences. I don't require staff to keep time sheets charging every 15 minutes of nothing to a client. I prefer that each person concentrate on their tasks and talents, and let the work we do sell itself instead of using time to justify what we charge.

7. Do the Right Thing.

Of course everyone one knows the importance of doing the right thing, like duh! Doing the right thing is more than just a principle, what I mean is this: Do the right thing, the right way, the first time for the right reason. Now, that's maturity, that's integrity, that's character; and that is what I strive to develop in all of the team.

8. Bigger is Not Always Better.

I've seen many agencies crash and burn because they got too big, too fast. They under estimate projects. They don't have the right players on the team. They burn out their best players, and, they over-promise and under-deliver. They see dollar signs, thinking that "big" brings profit. It does if you do it right, but most agencies fail trying to get there. Our approach is different. You should measure your success based on your clients' success. ?Measure your success based on satisfied clients. We've learned that our clients want us to be profitable, not greedy. We think long term. Relationships are more important that lots of one night stands. In the book Customers for Life by Carl Sewell, it says "you can shear a sheep many times but you can skin it only once". I know that's a little graphic but hopefully you get the message.

Build your business on long term relationships. Deliver what you promised, be fair in your billings and think more about your customer and less about the next thing your dreaming of buying and you will be a lot more successful and happier too!

9. Employ Good Business Practices.

Any accountant or lawyer starting a new business has been taught this principle from day one, but not us artsy-fartsy types. The graveyard is filled with agencies that died a pre mature death because they failed at business 101. Don't go crazy on this topic, but think about it for more than just a minute.

Early on in my career I would work day and night designing ads, writing copy, creating marketing strategies for my clients. I'd fall into bed from exhaustion, then get up the next day and do the same thing over again. I quickly found that I was only doing half of my work. Remember, you have bills to pay, on time, so that means you have to be as faithful with your accounting practices as you are with your creative work.

One of the best things that happened to me was the accounting firm that did my annual taxes (btw don't be stupid, pay your taxes on time), they recommended a bookkeeper that worked for them until she became a mom, again and again and again and again, to do my basic bookkeeping. She's been with us for over 15 years and is truly a gift from God.

10. Deliver What You Promise On Time and On Budget.

Sounds pretty basic, doesn't it? What I learned in my early years was that as I worked with a new client on a project, I would hear over and over again that my competitors failed miserably at delivering what they promised on time, and, that the final bill seldom reflected the quote that they were given. With that information I determined that On Time/On Budget must be one of the fundamental building blocks of any business. You can be the best creative guy or gal in the world, but if you cannot deliver on time and on budget you should probably work for the government.

Christian Counselors in the Church - Partners in Caring

I discovered psychology when I was a university freshman, many years ago. I loved everything about that first course, even the multiple choice tests and especially the section about counseling. Religion was not mentioned in the course, except in a negative way, but in my mind, I could see glimpses of how this newly-discovered field of study could have an impact on the church. I was surprised to discover that my old Sunday School teacher was not enamored with psychology like I was, but my interest grew as I took more courses and eventually decided to study further in graduate school.

In those days nobody talked about the integration of psychology and theology. Christian counseling was not a term that I heard often. My efforts to link my faith with my emerging career were guided by writers in the field of pastoral psychology. Most of these were more liberal theologically than I was but they wrote about ways in which psychological insights could help church-based counselors understand and better deal with issues like depression, interpersonal conflict, panic, and grief. The anti-psychology polemicists had not begun their angry campaigns against Christians in this field so I entered my profession never doubting that Christian counseling, guided by the Holy Spirit and informed by the Holy Scriptures, could be a powerful Christ-honoring tool for helping us do good to all people, especially to fellow believers (Gal. 6:10).

Over the years I have never wavered in my belief that Christian counseling has a lot to contribute to the church. I believe even more that the church makes a crucial contribution to the power and impact of Christian counseling.

*The Church Needs Christian Counselors*

Many Christian leaders still wonder why the church needs counselors. Is not good preaching and discipleship enough? Is not Christ sufficient to meet all human needs? Could not the efforts of dedicated church elders and other leaders eliminate the need for counselors? Do not the Scriptures tell us that believers have everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness? (2 Peter 1:3) Why would the church need counselors like us? We must begin our answer by looking to God's Word. Jesus was a teacher and a preacher, but he also was an effective counselor. He talked one-on-one to the woman at the well. He counseled Martha about her busy lifestyle, and talked tenderly to a woman caught in adultery. Late one night he helped Nicodemus with his spiritual struggles. Often Jesus talked with people privately, shared their hurts, gave encouragement, and guided as they coped with their problems. Sometimes he helped people find forgiveness. He asked questions, listened carefully, and often told stories that left people free to draw their own conclusions. When two of his followers were grappling with their grief and confusion on the road to Damascus, he spent time with them, listened to them, and showed them what Scripture said about their uncertainties.

In the early church and throughout the New Testament we see personal helping modeled and encouraged. Paul, for example, gave sensitive guidance and mentoring to Timothy. Barnabas was a consistent encourager. The epistles overflow with principles for living, guidelines for solving problems, and instructions for individuals with tension in their lives. More than 50 times we read one another passages. Bear one anothers burdens, we are told, encourage one another, care for one another, be kind to one another, serve one another. Of course these words are not directed to a special group known as counselors. These instructions are for all Christians, but they are teachings that encourage the type of help, support, and care giving that counselors have the calling, time, and special training to provide. There are those who say that counseling does not help. Sometimes it does not. But many people can tell encouraging stories about ways in which they have been changed by counselors who are trained to understand problems, teach communication skills, help people get along, and show how to deal with inner conflicts and pain left over from the past.

The best trained counselors recognize the influence of biology and appreciate the role that body chemicals play, sometimes creating havoc in Christian homes and individual lives. We need to remind church leaders that literally thousands of scientific research studies have examined the work of counselors and demonstrated their effectiveness. It is true, of course, that God does not need counselors for the advancement of his kingdom. Neither does he need teachers, physicians, preachers or anybody else.

In his sovereign wisdom, However, he uses mortals like us to accomplish his purposes. He could give us instant knowledge of all truth and could bestow wisdom like he gave Solomon; but he has chosen instead to work most often through godly teachers. He could heal all our diseases in an instant and sometimes he does, but for reasons that we do not fully comprehend, he brings most physical healing through the skillful hands of scientifically trained doctors and nurses. He could evangelize the world with the blink of an eye, but instead he has given this responsibility to evangelists, pastors, and faithful followers of Christ charged with the duty to go forth and make disciples. Instantaneously, God could wipe away all depression, anxiety, inner turmoil and interpersonal conflicts, but often he works through compassionate human beings with the gifts of encouragement, discernment, and counseling.

How then, do these counselors strengthen the church? First, counselors free pastors and other church leaders for the overall work of the ministry. Most pastors would agree: the demands of ministry gulp up large quantities of time and leave few hours for the concentrated care giving that counseling often demands. But no one person is called or equipped to do everything not even the pastor. Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12 teach that members of the body have different spiritual gifts and responsibilities. Counselors use their gifts to help people, honor Christ, and strengthen Christians in their churches. Counselors also help pastors, missionaries, and other church leaders deal with difficulties in their own lives. Recently I attended a large conference on church leadership led by two prominent evangelical pastors. During their messages, both mentioned how Christian counselors had helped in times of special difficulty and rejuvenated their ministries as a result. One described how a counselor had helped when the demands of ministry almost destroyed his marriage. The other talked about the time he hit bottom, burned out emotionally, physically and spiritually.

With the support of his church board he took time off, got help from a Christian therapist, and learned to pace himself for the effective ministry that he has today. Where do church leaders go when they need help? What if a pastor or missionary is struggling with a failing marriage, uncontrolled kids, hostile criticism, deep feelings of failure, insecurity, bitterness, or lust? Sometimes the best counselor is the person who can be objective, available, and trained to deal with the unique problems that may be draining energy, vitality, and effectiveness from Gods chosen servants. Christian counselors also can (and should) give support and encouragement to their spiritual leaders. This is one of the things we can do best, but I wonder how many of us take the time to come alongside our pastors or other Christian leaders to give a little inspiration and encouragement. Even when they are not having problems in their own lives or with counselees, church leaders need to know that people like us care enough to say with our words and our presence, Well done...I am standing with you. Christian Counselors have their own unique healing ministries that can strengthen the Body of Christ. Counselors have Counselors use their gifts to help people, honor Christ, and strengthen Christians in their churches.

As part of their in-depth training, counselors learn special helping skills. They have knowledge about the nature of common emotional problems like depression or anxiety, familiarity with the impact of biology on behavior, and expertise in handling faltering marriages or dealing with interpersonal conflict. Some suggest that counselors take a paraclete role, being used by the Holy Spirit to come alongside struggling people to bring special comfort, guidance, encouragement, and sometimes confrontation.

*Christian Counselors Need the Church*

One of the greatest weaknesses in the development of professional Christian counseling has been our movement away from the church. This has happened for at least three reasons. First, attitudes in some churches have driven counselors away. When church leaders condemn professional counselors and urge church members to avoid counseling, is it any wonder that some have set up their practices away from the church? Second, the mental health professions have encouraged independence. These attitudes are now changing, but for many years secular organizations and professionals have tended to distrust religion, proclaim the Importance of professional objectivity, and warned against dual relationships such as those that might occur in church settings. Influenced by managed care companies, state licensing agencies, ethical guidelines and the desire to be as professional as possible, many Christian counselors have concluded that their practices should be completely separate from the church just as medical or legal practices are independent.

Third, sometimes the movement away from the church has come because of the attitudes of counselors themselves. Some of us have kept our counseling and our Christianity compartmentalized because we do not know how to bring the two together, do not want to bring them together, fear being accused of proselytizing, or do not want our beliefs to impact our therapy adversely. But Christian counselors ignore the church at their own peril. We are members of the body of Christ. Christian counselors need the church for encouragement, support, teaching, and worship. We cannot forsake meeting together with other believers (Heb. 10:25). For many years I attended church routinely but only within the past few years have I begun to fully appreciate the role that corporate worship plays in my life. I need it. When I am traveling and miss worship with other believers, I sense a vacuum in my life even if my personal devotional life is intact. Every Christian needs the church body even when our churches are not very worshipful. We need this more because of our kind of ministry. We are in the business of seeking to undo what the devil does best. Our work is a form of spiritual warfare. He is the father of lies; we seek to help people face the truth.

He divides people; we bring them together. He convinces them that life without God is best; we teach that life without God is futile and ultimately empty. He seeks to discourage us, distract us, sidetrack us, and prevent our effectiveness as counselors; we work with the knowledge that while the evil one is powerful in his activities, the one who is in us is greater than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). We are helpless to do this kind of ministry in our own strength. We need the body of believers to hold us up in prayer and support. If there are none in your church who do this, you are lacking a key ingredient for your Christian counseling effectiveness. In addition, Christian counselors need the church for accountability. We live in a culture where independence and individual achievement are lauded, even in many churches. We acclaim super-star pastors and applaud our heroes in sports, music, and even the Christian counseling profession. I have seen it up close in the Christian publishing industry. Publishers, readers, and talk show hosts tell writers how wonderful they are and in time these authors begin to believe their own press reports. Accountability goes out the door along with humility. Whether or not we are successful or famous, each of us needs Christian brothers and sisters to stand alongside us, challenge us, and keep us accountable for the ways in which we live our lives, care for our marriage, pare not our kids, spend our money, deal with our own sexuality, and relate to our

clients.

Christian counselors also need the church for the support and spiritual encouragement of our clients. I know a counselor who makes three requirements for all of his counselees. They need to see him for their weekly counseling sessions, be involved in some kind of small group, and attend at least one worship service a week. My friend believes that his counseling is more effective and long lasting when his clients are anchored in a local church. For some counselors this may not be feasible, but the churches impact for good in the lives of clients cannot be overemphasized. Here is ecounseling.com therapist directory for your help.

*Winds of Change*

Our profession has come a long way since I took the freshman psychology course that eventually got me into Christian counseling. We still have a long way to go but the winds of change are blowing. Christians are recognizing that Christian counselors do serve a purpose especially when problems arise that common sense care giving does not seem to help. Counselors, in turn, are realizing that we need the church, desperately. Churches and counselors are in partnership like never before. This is the way it should be. I suspect this is Gods way.

Things to Consider in Choosing the Right Nursing Home For Your Loved One

It may be hard for you to decide if you are going to bring your loved one to a nursing home. If you trust your thoughts of such plan and think of the benefits, you may find it the best decision to make.

Over 1.5 million people have already availed of nursing homes as declared by the Department of Health and Human Services. Most of these people are at the age 65 and up. The reason they decide to be at the nursing home 24 hours is because these people are frail and may also experience dementia.

Meals, room, medical services, and rehabilitative care that will provide protection to the elderly may be provided by nursing home. The assistance of professionals may be needed when it comes to medications, therapies, and other works only a trained medical practitioner can do.

Despite of these services that nursing homes offer, it does not make the home look like a hospital. Instead, it will provide a warm sense of being taken cared of. The purpose of nursing homes is not only to assist the elderly but also to provide the support they needed to function individually.

The most important thing that should be considered if you are going to choose nursing homes is the necessities of the person who will be taken cared of, MetLife Mature Market Institute may provide experts on this field. Take note of the needed services such as dementia care or therapy of various types.

Appropriate facilities may also be needed for someone who has been hospitalized. The arrangement can be taken cared of by a social worker or a discharge planner. Do a consultation with your physician, agencies for aging people, or maybe friend or family that is knowledgeable about nursing facility if you are to choose one.

Make it a point that the location will be accessible so that you may visit the facilities at your scheduled times or maybe at your convenience. Make sure that you will be able to visit those locations at least once a week.

And while doing a visit, it is also good to do some observation. Take note of the environment. Will it cause boredom? Are there any fun activities? Take note of the cleanliness not only inside but also in the surrounding, the people outside and the things that surround the facility.

For security purposes, make sure that before you sign up for a particular facility, everything is properly explained to you especially the terms and conditions. You must also be informed about all the benefits and your rights as a client. Sign the agreement only if everything has fully understood.

It is also important to make sure that everything is included in the contract that you will sign especially the payment and reasons or ways of discharging or transferring a patient if that person should be hospitalized or brought home.

After all the careful planning, you may then place your loved one under nursing homes. You and the rest of your family or friends will be satisfied if you think you have done your best.

Choose the Best Private Tutor For Best Results

Most parents know that their children do not put in as much effort as they can when it comes to academics. Irrespective of whether your child is getting good grades or not, you surely want your child to do better. More often than not this does not happen because children do not feel motivated to do more than what is absolutely necessary. One of the time-tested ways of getting children to put a bit more effort is to appoint a private tutor. Private tutors have been known to ensure that students managed to get good grades even if they did not attend school on a regular basis.

There are several advantages of appointing private tutors. The first advantage is that New York private tutors make sure that their students do not have doubts about the things that are taught in school. Hence you must carefully choose a person who has adequate knowledge of the subject. While a college student may be capable of teaching elementary school students, you must appoint more qualified people for older students.

It is also important for you choose a New York private tutor who is capable of inspiring young people. Tutors usually develop their own ways of inspiring their students. This is why some experienced tutors charge more. Often these professionals are capable of motivating their students to such an extent that their children themselves start reading up on their own. Once a student is interested in a subject and gets the required guidance there is no limit to what he or she may achieve.

One of the things that people often forget is that New York private tutors can ensure that your child manages to finish his or her homework quickly. This means that he or she will be able find time for other extra-curricular or co-curricular activities. Often students do not like to their homework because they wish to play or pursue some hobby. A private tutor will be able to help the child to stick to a schedule that will enable him or her to pay adequate attention to other things.

Parents are often worried about finding reliable tutors because there are many people offering their services. The best way to get in touch good professionals is to contact an agency that checks the backgrounds of tutors before recommending them to parents.

Quick and Easy Shelving - Do it Like the Pros

Shelves are almost always the most useful and hard-wearing "parts" of the house. Raised above the prying hands of children and unruly pets, shelves provide a private storage space where food or heirloom silver plates can rest quietly until they are used again.

Old parts of the house are good

According to Shaun Myer, a home improvement consultant in London:

"Taking away original features? Disaster! We're awash with TV shows and magazine stories telling us that we should savor the past and take it with us into the future. Ripping the heart out of a property will be seen as a heinous design crime."

Myer continues with:

"Original features are part of estate agency parlance - not having them is a serious disadvantage. Original features are a steady comfort in a fast moving world of fickle tastes and almost anything new can be made to work well along side them. Never get rid!"

Add shelf space, add life

Since getting rid of the old shelves aren't a good idea, financially, DIY shelving seems to be a good recourse. The materials that you will need are 1.5-inch screws (for masonry walls), rawl plugs (for masonry walls), no 8 screws (for stud partitions), screwdriver and shelving planks (cut to your desired size) and of course, a small sander.

The first thing to do is make sure that your brackets are secure before you install the planks. If you're dealing with a masonry wall, simply drill 1.5 inches or 1.25 inches into the wall and insert rawl plugs. Insert the 1.5 inch screws into the rawl plugs.

Extra support counts

The problem with brackets on both sides of shelving is that there is a tendency for the middle part to actually bow. According to Stefanie Mann, a design artist and DIY enthusiast from Edinburgh:

"Extra brackets don't cost much, but they add that strength to make sure that there are no accidents after you use the new shelving."

Instead of putting two brackets, put three or four. Make sure that the middle portions of the new shelving are amply supported. An ideal size for the planks of wood for the shelving would be between three feet to five feet, depending on the location of the shelving.

For kitchens, the optimum size would be three feet or even less. For bedrooms (such as bedrooms with small study areas), you can go beyond five feet. `

Sand it correctly

It's up to you if you want to paint or varnish the planks before installation. But a deciding factor here is whether the sanding has sufficiently evened the surfaces. Sanding should be done evenly on both sides of the plank.

Begin with the corners and slowly work to the center of the plank. The rhythmic sideways movement should always have consistent pressure so that when you sand an area again, the result would more or less be the same throughout.

You can use a small broom to remove the shavings from your work area. Be careful with the sander, as many sanders have thick, hard blades that can skin a hand if misused.

Assisted Living: Elderly Loved Ones' Safety is Focus

Convincing elderly loved ones to move from the comfort of the home they've known for years into an assisted living situation can be one of the toughest hurdles for families to face. The best way is to start the conversation sooner than later, while your loved ones are still in good health. Getting them used to the idea beforehand will make it easier when the time comes. But what if you haven't discussed it nor made plans for a transition? If it is time for your loved ones to alter their living situation--here are some things you should do.

Think Safety First

Keep in mind that your loved ones' safety is the most important thing. If you know that they cannot remain in their own home safely, don't let your emotions override what you know needs to be done. Don't wait for a broken hip, a car accident, medicine overdose, or a crisis call before you step in. Recognize that when you were a child, your parents would have done everything possible to ensure your safety. Now, as hard as it is, you have to be the "parent", and make the best decisions for them.

Consider a Multi-Level Facility

A multi-level facility offers additional services, preventing the turmoil of another movie if your loved ones' health declines. Many seniors start out with their own private apartment and progress through stages of assisted living and eventually to skilled nursing and dementia care, all within the same facility. They may be able to bathe, dress, and take their own medications now, but it's a blessing to know that services can be added if needed. And many times the friends they have made along the way progress along with them, providing the comfort of familiar faces.

Get References

The best way to evaluate a facility is to talk with families who have a loved one living there. Drop in on the weekends during peak visiting hours and discreetly ask about the accommodations, service, activities, cleanliness, food (be sure to eat a meal there yourself), reliability, personnel, etc. If they had it to do again, would they move their loved one there? What do they wish they had known? Also, ask the administrators if there are any liens or lawsuits filed, and ask to review their licensing and certification reports. Also, check with your local Area Agency on Aging and their long-term care ombudsman's office. If the facility will not put in writing that there aren't any legal problems--keep looking!

Ask About Activities

Adult children are often filled with guilt for moving their parents, that is, until they see them flourishing in a new environment, making friends, and participating in activities they haven't enjoyed for years. Ask the activity director what/when activities are offered, such as: field trips, games, crafts, educational classes, singing, dancing, gardening, cooking, bingo, exercising, movies, interaction with children and animals, etc? Be sure to monitor the director and the frequency of these activities regularly.

Create a Relationship

Once you've selected the right place, ask the administrators to help convince your loved one to move, as they are very familiar with this problem and deal with it daily. Ask if someone can call your parents to try to develop a relationship over the phone. Perhaps he or she could drop by (while you just happen to be there) to invite your parents to a get-together. A few days later, casually drive you parents there, just to say hello to that person who was so kind to drop by. Seeing a familiar face is usually very helpful. Remember, any kind of change can be very scary for an elder. Take things slow, gradually reinforcing the idea of moving, with their safety your goal.

Create a Need

Another idea is to have the administrator ask for your loved one's "help" with something. Could they, for example, help with the bingo, cooking or singing classes? Perhaps they can help prepare lunch for the seniors there. Telling your loved ones that they are "needed" and giving them a "job" will help them feel more comfortable about going there. They will make friends, which can then ease the transition to moving there. Also, ask their doctors to encourage the move, emphasizing safety.

Reach for Support

Realize that since the beginning of time, everyone who has ever been lucky enough to have their parents reach old age has experienced the pain of watching their once-competent loved ones decline. We all know it is a part of life, but there are no words that can prepare us for the sorrow. Reach out for help from family and friends, join a support group right away--and don't even think you can do it alone!
