The Lawn Care Business Up-Sell - Additional Services to Offer

There are many additional services that lawn care business can offer to provide to their clients alongside lawn maintenance.

This article sets out the advantages of offering additional services along side lawn care and lists some typical services that lawn care businesses offer.

It is much more cost effective to market these additional services to an existing customer base rather than to attract new customers. After establishing yourself as a high quality provider of lawn care you can then look at adding other niche services that you can offer clients as additional services.

It is best not to go into too many areas too quickly as the quality of your services will decline. Focus on offering a few services and focus on doing them well.

Don't ever forget that lawn mowing and maintenance is by far the biggest industry compared to the other services that you might offer and thus will probably always represent at least 60% of your work. Lawn mowing work is also frequent throughout a good part of the year unlike most of the other services that lawn care companies typically provide which may only need to be done once or a few times a year.

The following are services that you may consider offering alongside your lawn mowing services.

Additional Lawn Services

In addition to basic lawn mowing, edging and blowing a full range of lawn maintenance service can be offered such as lawn aeration

Trees, Plants and Garden Services

These services include mulching (spreading a protective layer of grass clippings or other material onto the top of a customers garden soil), fertilizing, pruning, trimming hedges and removal of leaves.

Irrigation

This involves the installation and maintenance of sprinkler systems on a customer's property.

Winter Services

In cold climates the lawn care industry shuts down over the winter. Businesses can maintain contact with their customers by providing services such as snow plowing and fire wood delivery throughout the off season.

Pest Control

Applying pesticides to fight insects and rodents can be a good additional service. As you can be dealing with some nasty chemicals ensure that you are complying with local regulations (the Environmental Protection Agency in the US).

Landscaping

This area is very broad and many lawn care companies specialize in only lawn care and landscaping. Landscaping is all about making improvements to a customer's outdoor area and includes designing the layout of plants, the form of the land and features as such as rock gardens.

The work done by landscapers also includes building and installing retaining walls, fences, paths, water features, patios, outdoor barbeques and exterior lighting.

Cleaning

This area is so diverse and can involve cleaning home exteriors, pressure washing (water blasting) and swimming pool cleaning and maintenance.

The variety of service that you can offer your customers is almost endless. Think of the customer's entire property as being within the realm of possibilities. If you can combine lawn mowing with a niche that is in demand then customers will come looking for you.
