The Right Time to Move Them to Home Care

We often want the best for our loved ones. When they get old, we give special care to them. As time passes by, we notice that we get busier by the day, our priorities change. Often than not, we find that our lives are dictated by our work, by what we do that we find little time for others and also for ourselves.

When we get so busy, we cannot take care of our loved ones and are forced to leave them at home. We may experience stress associated with this job. Even if we love what we are doing, we often turn out to deprive ourselves of sleep or be unable to balance our work. There may be times when we have doubted if this is the right decision or if it would be better to just entrust them in the care of others. When do we know if it is the right time to move them to a nursing home?

You need to consider a lot of factors. You need to be confident in leaving your loved ones alone at home. Take note of the frequency of accidents they have gone through, if these are serious such as slips, falls, or even forgetting to turn of the stove. Enough knowledge when it comes to safety precautions is really important. You need to be sure that in the event that accidents happen, he will know what to do.

Checking for personal care must also be considered. You need to check if preparing a meal by them is not much of a burden. Check if taking a bath, changing clothes, shaving, brushing of teeth and washing of the hair are still done regularly. Ask them if they find these already difficult to do or if they need other people to assist them in doing these.

Observe if they have been acting strangely, if they are skipping meals, or have lost their appetite a couple of times. Check if they feel that they are being threatened or if they have grown suspicious of others. Also, see if they are still taking their medications regularly or not even if there is a schedule written for them.

Check if there are times when they have forgotten personal information about their own self or even the people they used to know. This is important because if they go out without your knowledge, they will have a hard time to return to you house.

You may want to make the decision for your loved ones, but it is important to consider what they want. You need to know if they are willing to live with others and meet new people. Most importantly if they would want to just be alone or have caregiver helping them with their daily routines. If you have made the decision of sending them to a home care center, make sure to still visit them and do not just leave them there alone. Remember that you are sending them there just because no one can watch over them while you are busy with your life. Do not make them feel as if they are being a burden in your life.
