Nannies - How To Find A Reputable Caregiver

Nannies are used more often now by your average family than ever before. Finding a nanny for your children can be a stressful and grueling process. You are hiring a stranger to care for the most precious thing in your life. Ensuring you are hiring the right person will take time, however, once you have found the right person it can have a wonderful outcome for your entire family.

We struggle with juggling work, home life, extracurricular activities not only for our children, for ourselves and trying to keep a balanced relationship. If we are single all of this can be even more exhausting in turn making it that much more important to know we have chosen the right person for the nanny position.

You may choose to go about this process on your own or choose an agency to help you. If choosing to work through an agency be sure you know you are working with a reputable agency as well. Whichever you decide there are several questions you will want answered. Begin by making a list of questions you would like to ask during an interview process. It may help to make an answer key if you will. If you are looking for certain answers, or qualifications, to these questions this will allow you to see if they are coming close to meeting your expectation.

Be prepared to answer questions in return. Some of the obvious questions will be rate of pay, living arrangement, holidays and vacation situations. Preparing a job description and work calendar may be helpful.

There are other steps you should be taking in the interview process prior to making an employment offer. Doing a complete background check is crucial in this situation. This can take time to process but is worth the peace of mind it will offer you in the long run.

Because your child or children will truly be the employers you want to be sure that they are comfortable with whomever you are choosing to provide a large portion of their care. Watching the potential nannies interact with your children will be an indicator of whether you are choosing the right caregiver. Set up not only a time for them to interact on a regular day in your home but a day outside of your home as well.

Will you be providing a living quarter for the nanny while he/she is in your employment? Is part of the living expenses included in their pay? Will they be staying in the living quarters while you are away during any travel also? Having a live in nanny will require you to enter into a landlord type situation as well. Keep this in mind when putting together any type of employment contract.

You have now completed the process and extended an offer of employment. This can be a very rewarding relationship for you and your children. Always being aware that if the comfort level changes or you feel as if it is no longer a good situation for your children, there are many well trained, caring nannies ready to step into position.
