Going Green While Working at Home

Indoor pollution is up to 70 times greater than outdoor pollution, so a study by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) revealed. Concluding that the use of green products in the home is a smart move by consumers. The push to go green seems to be directed to the planet but as consumers learn the chemicals causing harm to the planet is also causing harm to people.

Many health issues are directly related to the air in our homes. Health issues like asthma, allergies, chronic fatigue and migraines. The out gassing of the chemicals in our everyday household and personal care products happens all of the time. We "take in" chemicals 3 ways. Through INHALATION, ABSORPTION, and INGESTION. Breathing in the "fumes" and "aromas" of the many products allows the chemicals to enter our bodies. We absorb them when we apply them to our skin. Have you every used a lotion? Or laundry detergent? Well of course you have. As you wear clothes that have been washed in a "typical" laundry product your skin absorbs those chemicals! Then there is also INGESTION. Wouldn't it be comforting to know the products in your home are non-harmful. Accidents happen all of the time with children and pets causing a fatal situation. It is just smarter and safer to use non-harmful green products. People do not realize the effects of using chemicals everyday, even in small doses. They add up over time and cause the body to break down.

The EPA also conducted a study that announced a 54% higher cancer rate amongst women who work at home. You can see why with the amount of out gassing coming from the common products found in any given home. As people look for an opportunity to supplement an income or even replacing an income due to the economic conditions they need to be aware of this side effect of being inside a home for the majority of their day. Using "green" products will drastically reduce the amounts of chemicals in a home. Of course you may still have the out gassing from the building itself due to construction supplies and paint.

Every one can make a difference by switching to safer products. Maybe you can work with a "green" company by using/testing their "green" line as you work from your own home. That is what I have done so I am able to work in an environment that is safer and healthier.

Just remember switching some of your many household and personal products to "green" is a start to a healthier you! Rome was not built in a day!
