The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), an independent regulatory agency created in 1972, is responsible to ensure that common consumer household products are safe from unreasonable risk of injury.
The (CPSC) has jurisdiction over more than 15,000 consumer products yet manufactures are only required by law to disclose a minuscule number of hazardous ingredients used in these products.
Federal regulations do require manufactures to provide minimal label information (such as the presence of acutely poisonous, irritating, caustic or flammable ingredients) but not for known carcinogens, neurotoxins or reproductive effects, which hardly constitutes adequate disclosure.
