Senior Day Care: 5 Employment Resources for Registered Nurses

Senior Care Employment Resource # 1 - Internet

The internet may seem like an unlikely place to find a senior day care job but more people than ever are using the internet, including senior citizens. In addition, most often it is the children or family of the seniors that are looking for a nurse to care for their loved one. There are many websites dedicated to helping people find medical related care for the elderly. Posting your resume on one of these sites can help families looking for senior day care find you.

Senior Day Care Employment Resource # 2 - Senior Centers

Most major cities have senior centers where elderly community members get together to do arts and crafts, watch movies and play cards. If you are looking to connect with seniors in need of senior home care, speaking to the staff as well as the seniors in attendance can often help you uncover leads. The people who are socializing may not need senior day care but there may be people who have recently stopped attending because they now require too much assistance. Many of these centers have bulletin boards for people to place ads.

Senior Home Care Employment Resource # 3 - Physician's Offices

Registered nurses speak with physicians on a daily basis and have access to nursing jobs outside of hospital and assisted living parameters. Most physicians, as well as their staff, will know if any of their patients are looking for private senior home care. When families have decided it is time to bring in private help, the often turn to their physician for recommendations. Sometimes just asking your own physician can be the lead you need to find a senior day care job.

Senior Care Employment Resource # 4 - Friends

Never underestimate the power of networking. Talking with friends about your new interest in a senior care job may spark a lead in the right direction. Friends have parents and grandparents that may be in need of senior home care or they may know somebody who has family members need senior care. Once your friends know that you are looking for this type of work they will be sure to listen for any available senior day care jobs and pass your name along to the right people.

Senior Home Care Employment Resource # 5 - Employment Agencies

Another possible resource is a medical employment agency. Many employment companies specialize in medical care and some specialize in senior home care. If your area of interest lies in senior day care, they are often able to connect you with people in need of your services right away. Just be careful to find out if there are any fees for their services up front so you are not caught by surprise.
