Adoption Is Forever

If you are considering adoption, this short article will give you some food for thought. The purpose of adoption is to provide a home for babies or children who have been permanently and legally separated from their birth parents. Adoption is permanent-at least in most cases. Adoption is a delicate and sensitive process for you, the child, the birth parents and for your own family. To establish or expand a family through adoption is an important decision, to say the least.

If you are willing and able to provide a new family for a child without one, there are some things you need to decide. Do you want to adopt a baby or child from the United States or would you adopt one from a foreign country? Adoption is so widely recognized that it can be characterized as a worldwide institution. An International adoption can be a difficult process although one might argue that any adoption can be complicated. Most would agree that International adoption is exciting, scary, complicated and life changing.

Another thing to think about is weather you would want an open or a closed adoption. There are arguments on both sides of this issue as well and we see the results all of the time on news and talk shows. Some studies indicate that open adoption is the best choice for everyone involved, while others point away from that conclusion. If you ask ten people what their opinion of open adoption is you are likely to get ten different answers. You will want to research this thoroughly and get advice from experts on adoption. Just remember, the fundamental purpose of adoption is to serve the best interests of children. You will be giving a homeless baby or child a home and family. This should always be your main focus.

One serious consideration should be the cost you will incur while adopting. The costs related to adoption vary, but in most cases the amount of money necessary to pursue adoption is substantial. A good first step might be to consult an adoption attorney about the options before you get in over your head. Adoption is generally one of the happier areas within the practice of law, at least when things work out well for everyone concerned. Adoption agencies use legal counsel to ensure that the adoption is handled according to statute. Usually a child lives with the adoptive family for at least six months before the adoption is finalized legally.

The reality is that adoption is a method of joining a family, just as is birth. Adoption is changing the face of the American family, creating a society that is more welcoming and more pluralistic than before. This loving choice, to give the gift of a family to a homeless child, is the greatest gift anyone can give. Adoption is intended to last a lifetime and to provide a child with a permanent family. Adoption is a life long process for both you and the child or children you adopt. It is a very important step which should not be undertaken without very careful thought and preparation. It is, in fact, one of the most important decisions you can ever make in your life.
