The A B C of Home Business Ideas

Most people look to the career or profession they have been trained in for home business ideas, and there are certainly many professions that can be successfully transformed into home based businesses. However, some people looking to work at home want a complete change from their previous career. It may be that you had a humdrum 9 to 5 job and want to express your hidden artistic talents. You may have played piano for years and want to teach others to do the same. Or you may just want a change just for change's sake.

Here are some ideas for home based businesses, starting with A, B or C - the first in a series of articles covering all the letters of the alphabet. (Almost all - 'Z' is proving difficult!)

Letter 'A'

Possibly the most popular home based business at the moment is Affiliate marketing, an online business that is inexpensive to start, and easy to maintain.

Article writing if another way to make money working from home, as there are millions of affiliate marketers who need articles written to promote their website.

If you're a certified accountant, you can offer your services to local businesses and individuals.

Experience in advertising may provide an opportunity to offer advertising services to local business as well - and outsource the work you cannot do yourself to other home based businesses.

Artistic talent can be used in many ways. You can create and sell works of art at local markets and fairs as well as online. You can offer art lessons for children and adults. You can freelance for graphic design and advertising agencies. You can also use your creative eye to consult for big corporations and individuals wanting to invest in art.

Letter 'B'

Start a business network association, arranging meetings, referrals and information swapping sessions with local businesses.

Offer your business consulting expertise for clients who need to re-organize or improve certain aspects of their business.

Baby care facilities are a boon for working mothers, and give work from home moms an ideal way to spend time with their own baby while earning a little extra.

Babysitting services may be the arena of teenagers, but there are many parents who would prefer an older and more stable babysitting service. Or you can manage a team of babysitters, taking bookings and arranging schedules for the teens in the neighborhood.

Although you will need training and equipment, you can convert a room of your home into a mini-beauty salon - some customers will prefer the privacy.

Baby shower gifts, like diaper cakes and presentation packages, are another opportunity for you to show some creative flair. This home business can be extended into party planning, arranging christening and baptism functions and so on.

Letter 'C'

Catering is a great home business for people with a passion for cooking. Cake decoration is a good business too - and a lot more affordable for your customers than custom-made cakes.

Child care is a good one, although you may need specific qualifications depending on the age of the children you care for, and local permits etc.

If you are crafty, you can start a craft business. A great avenue for this is to make custom-made corporate gifts with company logos and industry related crafts - this usually results in larger orders than the one or two sales you might get at the local craft market.

Coaching is another area that you can build a successful business out of. Whether it's personal coaching in terms of confidence, public speaking and self motivation, or one-on-one sport coaching, you can use your skills to coach others.

There are many more home business ideas that fall under these three letters. Come up with some ideas of your own, or use these to get you thinking along different lines. Remember to make use of your talents and expertise - whether you've hidden them before or not.
