Adoption Assistance Agency Talks to Expecting Parents (Also Called Birth Parents)

Your choices and options when planning an adoption are endless and can feel overwhelming. We will work with you one step at a time.

Once you have made the decision to place your baby for adoption we will assist you throughout the process. Some expecting parents become close to their adoption counselor and will call and/or see her frequently. Others are more comfortable with less contact. The law requires you to have some counseling and to complete a certain amount of paperwork. We will do most of the paperwork together. There is some paperwork you can do on your own, but if you want, we can do that with you as well. We will be present with you through all the emotions and are committed to supporting and protecting you.

If you need, your adoption counselor at Adoption Assistance Agency will help to facilitate medical care and living expenses.

We will provide grief counseling to prepare you for the feelings of loss before the birth of your baby. After your baby is born we will not leave you but be there to comfort, support and counsel you. Some Expecting Mothers need more support and care than others, each person and situation is unique and we will work to meet your individual needs.

You will be able to choose and meet Adoptive Parents who have been thoroughly screened and evaluated. Because we do the screening (called a Home Study) of our Adoptive Parents, we know them well and are confident that your baby will be in a loving and stable home.

You get to decide how much openness you would like. Some Expecting Parents do not want any contact with the Adoptive Parents and others just want to meet them. Some of you may want to involve one or both Adoptive Parents in doctor visits or even have one or both of them present during the birth of the baby, while others do not. The choices are yours to make. Both Expecting Mothers and Expecting Fathers will be able to receive letters and pictures throughout the baby's childhood.

Complete confidentiality is available. Some Expecting Parents do not want family members or friends to know about their adoption plan for varying reasons. This is your choice and if you desire a confidential adoption, we will do all we can to ensure your privacy. You may still receive letters and pictures and can have them sent to Adoption Assistance Agency to view in private, or you may choose a closed adoption. We will go over all of these options with you.

Adoption can be an emotional time for your family members as well. If you want, your adoption counselor will be glad to meet with any of your family members. If you are afraid to tell them we will assist you to know how to best share your adoption plan with them in a manner that is loving and open. The families of some Expecting Parents are not supportive of their choice to do an adoption. This can be painful and confusing to Expecting Parents who are certain that placing their baby for adoption is best option for their future and their baby's future. If you know that adoption is the best choice for you and your baby, we will do all we can to support and care for you in the face of difficulties with family and sometimes, friends.

Every Expecting Mother's experience with the father of the baby is unique. We will assist you in the best way as determined by your circumstances with him. Many Expecting Fathers are involved in the adoptive process, while others may be unhappy with your choice. We have seen hundreds of circumstances throughout the years, and are ready and prepared to help you with yours.
