Ways In Which You Can Apply For Adoptive and Foster Care

When you apply for foster care it can sometimes be a long process for you and your partner and it can also be an emotional challenge as well. When someone decides to do this they start off feeling very happy that they will able to give that child a life that they may not have had otherwise. Or, they have an interest in wanting to adopt a child, and see fostering a child as a way to do it, without all the extra cost needed. For children who may end up in this process are in a real need for a home, as to a baby, who will most likely have people in waiting to adopt this child through an agency.

What You Have To Do

What you need to do first is call your local Protective and Department of Family services. They will give the dates of the next orientation class to attend. Once you attend this class, they will go through what you need in order to become foster parents. There is a lot more to it than you will probably realize. The family income needs to be at a high rate, so that you can support a family - when you decide to foster you need to known that it is not an income earning scheme. Your home needs to be big enough to support the family, and that you have a certain number of children that is required by the state. In the state of Texas, you must have under six children that are not older than 18 in your residence, or alternatively if there is children under 5 you can have more than 5, and that also includes the children that are yours.

The Following steps

Once this class is completed and you can see that you meet their requirements, there is 20 hours of training required. You will be told that when you are fostering, the problems you will face, and they will give you suggestion in how to handle it. They will give you ideas in knowing how to move through the system. They will give you talks, and visual guides on what can happen once you foster and adopt a child. When you pass these class, you will get a certificate, take it to the local office, and from there you will need to take further classes in water safety and CPR. Once this is complete contact your Department of Family agency, and they will come meet with you in your home.

When you need to get your home reading it can be a scary experience and quite a nerve racking one, especially because you want to get it right and you want to impress, but it may not be as bad you may expect. They will provide you with a list of everything that you need, and make sure you have done it all, and you shouldn't have any problems. The house needs to be in order, and you will go through what age you would like to foster, and what problems or disabilities you could accept.

After the home visit and the home study is completed, you will then have to wait for what they have to say, which can be an agonizing time. However, when the department receives the study, it will be either approved or denied, and they will tell you when you can take in your child. This could be a quick process or it could take a long time. Sometimes in these situation there maybe families that they may favor over you, and you could be waiting for a while.
